about 3 13/16" in the plane of the angled rod tube It is about 3" wide at the widest point and about 2 3/16" wide at the narrowest point across the flange (as you can see, the sides are not parallel).
I have.. They carry out their duties effectively. As long as you're comfortable cutting on your Kayak, installation was fairly straightforward.
When I ordered this item, I got two of them.
I cut the oval shape with a 1 3/4" hole saw and an arbor bit, matching the angle of the rod holder.

On my Wilderness Tarpon 100, it's been installed. One holds a rod and reel, while the other holds a net. For added protection, I used sealant underneath the gasket. Like other reviewers have stated, the screws that came with it are VERY EASY to strip out, so I do not recommend using power tools to install them; instead, screw them in by hand for the best fit. Two rods can be seen in this illustration.
I was considering spending nearly $300 on a new fishing kayak when I realized I could convert my existing kayak into a fishing platform with just $30 in accessories. To install these, I cut holes in my Kayak with a hole saw of the appropriate size. Remember! It is not possible to drill a hole that is the same size as these holders. Oblong is the only way to go. So you cut a hole and then add a half-hole to it. Anyway, if you do it right, these will fit in perfectly and look like they were always meant to be a part of your kayak. As part of the upgrade, I also purchased and installed a front-mounted fishing rod swivel holder in my kayak. Basically, these holders allow you to store your rods while paddling. While I wait for that big one to come along and take the bait, the swivel holder I mounted up front will provide me with a place to put a bait casting rod. In the meantime, I can use my spinning rod and lure set-up because my hands are free. In any case, once properly installed, these holders perform admirably and look great. If I remember, I'll take a photo and post it later.
It took about 20 minutes to install this good product. I made an elliptical hole with a 1 3/4" hole saw after the first 90 degree cut, allowing the rod holder to sit flush where I mounted it at the front of the Kayak. br>I have to say that the screws provided are good, but not ideal, so I went to Home Depot and bought some 10 x 3/4" stainless steel, CSK, phillips head Screws, Washers, and Nyloc Nuts, suffice to say, it's not going anywhere now! Before I bolted it down, I used some silicone sealer around the hole to keep water out, but to be honest, if it does leak, it's not a disaster. Overall, I'm very pleased with the fit and appearance of the garment.
Tubes that are well made. I like how they have caps on them to keep them closed when they are not in use. I had them installed on my F They appear to be part of the S Blade kayak. However, there are no installation instructions. If you have a lot of tools, like I do, it won't be a problem, but if you don't, you'll definitely need a 1 3/4" hole saw and a screwdriver. I also used a four-in-one file to shape my holes to an exact fit, then sanded them smooth.
Instead of purchasing a real fishing kayak, I purchased a cheap Aruba10 kayak for around $250. br>However, going fishing without these is practically impossible. br>To put these on, I traced a circle on the mounting base and then cut it out with my dremmel. br>Then I screwed these in place after putting some silicon down. No, I put my rods in these and paddle out when I go fishing in my kayak. br>These are really cool - I'm glad I purchased these.
The rod holder has a nice design. If you're transporting more than one kayak at a time, flush mount means you won't have to worry about the rod holder scratching another one. The only thing to keep in mind is the hole size; use the next size up because the holder surface must be flat against your kayak or boat. The tube/container is angled and will not fit flush unless there is enough room. As an example (e. Use a 2" hole bit if the rod holder has a 1 3/4" hole bit). You can always use the exact size, but with a hole drill bit, you only get one shot at the center point, after which it's all downhill.
I used these as replacement parts for two Hydros kayaks that I converted into fishing models, and they fit and seal just like the ones on the fishing model. Scotty rod holders and extensions were used to complete the project. I was able to convert two standard model Hydros kayaks to the exact specifications of their fishing models for about half the cost of the Hydros fishing models with just a little work and a few dollars in parts. The only difference when everything is put together is the color of the kayaks, which I prefer over the blue. These flush mount rod holders are excellent value for money.
The holders are fantastic in and of themselves. The length is a little shorter than the seadog ones I've used in the past, and the gasket is also a little smaller. Unlike the seadog ones, there is no gasket lip that extends beyond the mount. Overall, though, it's a decent rod holder. On my sundolphin Aruba 10, I put two.
