"Padded" is not a word that comes to mind when I think of this. They have a thin rubber coating that improves grip and prevents your hand from slipping.
There is (was) no doubt about it. I've done this a few times myself, buying something and then not using it for a few months, only to find that it doesn't work when I finally do use it. I bought a table saw from Harbor Freight during the winter because it was on sale, and when I tried to use it in the summer, it fried as soon as I turned it on, literally sparks flying from the motor and switch. They gave me another one because I had my receipt and they could see it had not been used.

The first time I used it, it fell apart. When rowing, the plastic is very stiff and does not take the force of the water. High hopes were raised, but they were quickly dashed.
The rescue mission- style T- The two 'peaks' at the top of the handle dig into your hand, and the twist lock (rather than pin-lock) mechanism is inconvenient to use. The blade material is soft and flexes when used, and the shaft material is too thin to be useful as an emergency paddle or a rescue hook.
These are lightweight and simple to use. I wouldn't use them if I knew I'd be pushing off rocks or the ground. The T handle is useful, but it's difficult to square the T up with the paddle blade when changing the length. This makes me feel very uneasy. You can get it to line up if you fiddle around with it a bit. Its ability to telescope is a useful feature for taller or shorter paddlers.
And it turned out to be a good bet. br>br>We got two of these paddles for $10 less than one of the other brand, and they're sturdy, tighten as they should, and extend to the perfect length for docking and/or emergency rowing. I wouldn't use it as a daily paddle, so I can't speak to that, but they are an excellent addition to our powerboat and store easily without taking up much space.
It's a nice and necessary item to have on board for a variety of reasons. It's adequate for the tasks it's supposed to perform. Use it only in situations where sturdiness is required. It only takes up a small amount of storage room and is simple to expand. It is highly recommended.
In the event that my kayak paddle is lost or damaged, I bought this as an emergency replacement. I like how it's a practical size that telescopes down to a small size for stowing. I also like the color because it makes it easy to locate in the storage cubby.
I spend most of my time in shallow water, so. This is exactly what I was looking for in a 13' Boston Whaler, and it turned out beautifully. br>br>Because I'm always in shallow water, I keep this with me to do a quick depth sounding. When I cut the engine too soon while pulling up the beach, I've grabbed the paddle a couple of times. It's a little on the light side, but it's of good quality.
Perfect. . a fantastic deal quality.
