I secured them with oar locks. They were a little loose, so I used a piece of thick rubber (a radiator hose) to cover the oar shaft where the oar lock was. That was a fantastic solution. Otherwise, they have a proclivity for slipping.
Actually, they're oars, not paddles, and each one costs $31 plus shipping. Even without shipping, their prices are roughly in the middle of the pack. Because Amazon juggles shipping costs, you'll have to go through the entire checkout process to find out what the final price is. One of the reasons I prefer to shop at other stores.
One oar is all that is required.

I purchased a pair of these oars to replace wooden oars that had deteriorated due to their exposure to the elements in the boat. They perform just as well as wooden oars and are, surprisingly, the same weight. As a result, they are unable to shed pounds. After a long period of use, the padded handles have yet to cause blisters. To maintain the clamp-on effect Because the oar shafts are smooth and polished, I use old inner tube material to keep them in place.
Imagine my dismay when I realized I had only ordered ONE FREAKING OAR. Who sells a single oar, anyway? I was under the impression that I was getting a great deal. However, $45 for a single oar seems excessive. The oar appears to be in good condition, though it is quite basic and not in the least bit ergonomic. If I had known, I would not have purchased. It was, without a doubt, my fault. one oar? Is this for real?.
I knew nothing about oars when I ordered these (and still don't), but they're surprisingly simple to use and appear to be quite durable. All I knew about rowing was what I learned on the gym's rowing machines. In terms of effort, rowing is easier, but staying straight in the creek is surprisingly difficult. This is entirely due to the operator's fault, not the oars.
It appears to be strong, and when I called the company before ordering, they said it was built for white water. These aren't the HD aluminum oars I used commercially on class 5 water, but they're a fraction of the price, and the blade is the right size. I'll only be using them on class 4 on my Hyside paddle cat, which I built a frame for, so they'll suffice. Before ordering, make sure you know how tall your oarlocks are and how wide your boat is. There are a plethora of resources available on the internet to assist you.
I needed oars that would not decompose after being exposed to the elements for an extended period of time. This was exactly what I needed. The sun's ability to cause the plastic paddles to rot will be determined over time. This is why I rated it a four out of five. As of now, I recommend this product; however, I wish they sold them in pairs at a discounted price, but perhaps I'm being too picky.
These are very effective, and the price is reasonable. They're on my 14ft Whitehall with gimbaled oarlocks, and they're great! I have some that are made of wood and go better with a traditional boat, but these are much lighter!.
This is a high-quality oar for a boat. This purchase has exceeded my expectations.
Water was poured into both of them. This adds to the weight.
