It looks like ash, which is exactly what I was expecting. They're well-made, but they'll need sanding and leather fitting before they're finished. Rowing and the selection and fitting of oars to body and boat size have been covered in depth in the wooden boat mag. I've been rowing for more than forty years and use open oar locks. They'll be ideal for a tender or a tugboat.
Both would be dependent on how frequently you plan to use the rowboat and how worn out the oar is. Sewn- On leathers are a cheap and easy way to keep your oars from chafing in their oarlocks. Sewn leather can be easily removed for wear and tear repairs. Tacked- On the other hand, leathers may allow moisture to penetrate the wood, making it rot-prone. I don't think the tips of these oars need to be reinforced unless they're going to be used a lot. Mine were used for recreational purposes during the summer months and have held up admirably - Despite the fact that it is only the first year. Wishing you luck!
The paddle measures 4 5/8 in width. The grip measures about 1 1/2" in diameter.

I primed and painted it. I couldn't find any oars in the area. I got free shipping on plain oars. I primed the surface and then painted it with enamel paint. This is going to work perfectly.
br>When I presented it to him, he cried a little and it now hangs over his bed. HUGE hit!.
I was sick of rowboat motors and wanted to try something a little more human-powered. I did some research on oars and came across these. They are very nice and ready to finish when they arrive (quickly and carefully packed). 220 was used as a base, red oak was stained, and three coats of spar urethane were applied. This is a fun project to do with the kids.
I found exactly what I needed.
I bought this oar with the intention of using it as a stair rail. It was precisely what I required and performed flawlessly.
I haven't put them to use yet, but they appear to be well-made.
" We bought three 7-footers. foot oars, each with a unique design painted on it. The pieced wood construction was very appealing, and there was no varnish on them, so we could decorate them without having to wait for them to dry. After sanding, it's time to seal. It was a fantastic base for a fun do-it-yourself activity. project on your own.
