Please accept my apologies for the delay; I had to check out of state.
It's a paddle that can be used for canoeing, kayaking, or to help a motorless boat get to shore. It is not the right type of paddle to use as an oar, and it should not be purchased for that purpose. "IT WILL NOT LAST"; if that's what you're after, then get an OAR!
Buy two.
The paddles are made of wood. They do float, to be sure.

Since the 1980s, I haven't purchased a wooden paddle. br>They are light in weight and appear to be well constructed. br>Only time will tell if they last as long as my vintage ones, which I've had for decades. br>br>I looked over a lot of the Amazon complaints. br>There are no blemishes on my paddles. br>It's possible that the lacquer finish was achieved through dipping. At the bottom of the paddle, where there appears to be an insert for strength and gluing, there is a buildup. I don't have anything against that method of construction, but I believe it will require a lot of sealing. br>The finish isn't glass smooth, but it's pleasant to the touch, completely covers the wood, and shouldn't cause any problems in use. br>I'm thinking of giving them a light sanding and refinishing them. br>br>In short, I am pleased with the product. br>I hope they live up to their name sake. br>I coat them with a marine varnish because I have all the materials and want them to last. br>br>Additional finishing does not appear to be required before they are placed in service, but it wouldn't hurt. br>br>In conclusion, I am pleased with the product. br>I hope they live up to their name sake. The same company makes my 30-year-old paddles. br>I'd buy it again, but I'm hoping it won't be needed for a while. br>EZ.
The end of the paddle blade has a piece of wood glued across the lamenate, but it is ascew and not properly seated. The varnish is thin, and the grain is visible in some places. It's not twisted or warped in any way. Has withstood my swinging it around, crashing into trees, and using it as a crutch, not to mention moving the canoe when used as a paddle. br>I sanded down the varnish and rough spots after unboxing, inspection, and stress testing. I used marine epoxy and sawdust to fill in the gap around the askewed end piece, then re-varnished, sanded, varnished, sanded, and so on until I was satisfied. Everything was as expected for a low-cost paddle.
Both paddles had black filler/epoxy in the blade tips when I ordered them. Resin appears to be filling the voids in a slot cut across the paddle tip, straight down the middle of the blade. This wasn't shown or explained in the Amazon product description, which appears to be on purpose. I'm worried that the paddle's integrity will be compromised by open voids in the tip.
I bought two paddles, each with a different design, to use as wall decor. Both arrived with rough edges and discoloration all over the paddle in front and back, and neither had the same design as the photo; one had rough edges and some discoloration all over the paddle in front and back, and was not smooth like the rest, with some distortion of the letters as well. I chose to return both rather than exchange because I didn't want to risk receiving paddles with a different design.
I bought the 5ft to use while canoeing down a river, and they worked great. I brought an extra because they were said to be easy to break, but we put them through their paces and they performed admirably! I sanded the handles and painted them with Rustoleum clear spray paint. They were great until we put sunscreen on them and the paint started to peel. If you're going to use sunscreen, you should use something else to coat them with. Two different brands converted the clear coat to gell, resulting in a black sticky mess that caused blisters. It was a great time! These paddles come highly recommended!.
These paddles are fantastic. The handles were a little rougher than expected, but not overly so, so a quick brush with extra fine sand paper fixed it! They have a nice finish and appear to be extremely durable and long-lasting. I only wish the bar code label hadn't been applied because it was extremely difficult to remove. I'll buy from this company again if I ever need these. They were delivered early and in separate boxes, providing excellent protection.
One is excellent, while the other is subpar. First, the Positive: The bad: It is lightweight, sturdy, beautiful, and inexpensive. br>br>The good: It is lightweight, sturdy, beautiful, and inexpensive. br>br>The bad: I purchased two, which arrived at the same time but were of drastically different quality. This would be a five-star review if both oars were in good condition, but one was not. finished. It was rough to the touch, as opposed to the smoothness of the other. Furthermore, the wood had several flaws that would splinter anyone who used it. When I went to return the item, I discovered that I would have to pay for shipping! Thank you very much. I sanded it down and will apply my own varnish.
So far, it's been a nice, high-quality, stylish paddle. With a width of just over 7 inches, it's a little on the narrow side. If you have to deal with any kind of current for an extended period of time, this is a good choice. For $4 more, I found it at True Value in town. Made in the United States of America. I purchased a 4' and a 4'. I should have just gotten two 4' paddles instead of a 5' one. It was time to call it a day after 5 footers. My girlfriend and I are both 5' 10" tall.
