This style of prop wrench is, in my opinion, the best. You don't need a screwdriver or any other tool to remove or install a prop because it comes with a built-in washer tab tool. The only thing I did differently was drill a hole in it and add a safety line so I wouldn't lose it if I dropped it in the water while replacing a prop.
The metal construction (as opposed to other plastic options) is extremely durable, and the prop socket fits perfectly. Because our drain plug is right next to the trailer rail, swinging on it with a square plug wrench is difficult. It'll do the job, but it's not ideal.
I bought this to replace the prop on my Mercury Command thrust motor, which has a 60 horsepower engine. It's fantastic! I strongly advise you to do so.
In ten minutes, I had a new propeller for my Bayliner. The money was well spent. In case of an emergency, I'll stay in the boat.
When I went out, I had my 1 1/16" socket and 18" ratchet with me. My dock rope got tangled up in the prop on one occasion. Shop was kind enough to lend his prop wrench. Sweet, petite, and airy. Instead of packing my socket and ratchet, I had no choice but to purchase one.
It performs admirably, is well-made, and is simple to operate. Much better than the plastic floating ones, which only seem to work once or twice before becoming useless. Because this one isn't going to float, I'm going to tie it to a cleat in case I drop it. It was money well spent.
It replaced my propeller perfectly and can be used to tighten the drain plug as well.
The appropriate tool for the task! Excellent value for money! Everything is in order. Simple to work with. I immediately removed my old, rusted-on prop nut. It was a perfect match.
