Mine didn't come with a tripod, clamp, or soft case like the one in the picture; The contents of the kit didn't say it came with them (it had a zipper case, a holder with a bubble level, and an aluminum shaft), and the contents of the package didn't say it came with them. The UPC for vane was 730650007912. Returning it for a replacement to see if the second one works; But I have my doubts, so I go over everything again. The weather vane is a device that measures wind direction and is the subject of your inquiry. Underneath the clip that holds the meter is a standard tripod mount post. The tripod mount is housed within a pivoting mechanism that allows it to freely rotate as the wind changes. br>If you're talking about the meter, I don't recall it having a tripod mount screw, which, along with the tail on the weather vane, is why this product was created; I haven't used the 5000 series meter to compare it to the 4500. I have a 4500 bluetooth with the weather vane, as well as a 2000 series for everyday use.
Only the Kestrel 4000 series is compatible with the plastic "cup." I did, however, trim a wooden block to fit inside the cup and use it with a different anemometer. It's not as attractive as the original, but it gets the job done.
Most standard tripod screws will accommodate this. It uses a standard 1/4" screw to secure it.

My Bluetooth 4500 is in perfect working order. Allows it to provide remote sensing to apps on my Android phone without having to use my hands. Strelok can maintain a live connection while Shooter captures a snapshot of the conditions from a Bluetooth 4500. Yes, the wind vane is light and likely won't withstand much abuse, but the materials are high quality, and it needs to be light to respond to wind shifts. The weather meter holder comes with a built-in bubble level to help you level your tripod. It comes with the vane kit as well as a carrying case with a belt loop on the back. When you have the wind vane kit in the field, the case also fits your Kestrel, so you don't have to carry two cases. The vane kit is attached to your tripod using a standard 1/4" screw. br>br>A tripod is not included, which would be a little excessive for the price.
I balanced the vane with motorcycle wheel weights and supported the other weathermeter with foam pieces inserted into the mounting slot. It appears to work properly, despite the fact that the Weatherflow I have no longer has an internal compass:.
When you first get it and put it together, it appears to be cheap, but upon closer inspection, you'll see that it's made of carbon fiber and high-end plastic for the vane and holder. It has a triangular attachment. When leveled, the pod functions as intended. It's great to be able to shoot this on the 20-yard line at the range and then use an app on my Android phone to get good mid-range weather for my ballistic calculator. Fortunately, I shoot on my own private range, so I don't have to be concerned about someone shooting my Kestrel or wind vane next to me. br>br>Overall, it's a fantastic product for any Kestrel owner looking for wind direction control. Mine gets used about once a week. Not always for shooting, but at least twice a week. I use it to report weather to NOAA on occasion, and because it is NIST certified, they can use the data directly.
For my Kestrel 4500 meter, I bought this. When shooting or working outdoors, I thought it would be useful to have to keep an eye on the wind direction. When it arrived in such a small case, I was a little skeptical (the case is very well built, and you can even fit the 4500 meter in with the vane monut with a little work). It works great after I put it together and mounted it on an old tripod I had lying around. It took some clever engineering to make it break down so small while still keeping all of the pieces together and making it difficult to lose any of them. Engineers at Kestrel, you've done a fantastic job!.
While the concept of the design is appealing, it is poorly executed. The wind vane needed more than 2 1/2 mph of wind to rotate on the aluminum (no bearing) to plastic mount, and the bubble level was improperly placed, making leveling the head that held the Kestrel 4500 impossible. I would not recommend buying this cheaply made accessory for an otherwise well-made American device, as the device did not come with the long shaft below the head as shown on the website.
I'm wondering if counterfeit versions are making their way into Amazon's supply chain after reading the previous reviews. I'm using a Kestrel 4500NV with this wind vane. The wind vane I received is very effective. Otherwise, the unit will not be sensitive to wind direction at low wind speeds unless it is perfectly leveled using the attached bubble. It's also a good idea to use a zip tie to tighten up the bracket a little so the wind meter doesn't move around as much. However, no other micro anemometer set-up exists. There is nothing that compares to the portability and accuracy of this combination, which approaches that of research-based accuracy. At a fraction of the cost, you can get professional-grade weather stations.

This item is made of low-quality plastic that will easily break if handled roughly. It has an aluminum pole that is erect with the help of a small bungee string because it is in two pieces. This is something I wouldn't buy. Unless you're just looking for a $69. 00 deal. 00/$51. The only thing I like about this product is the 64-dollar pouch (it's the only thing I like about it). I wish I could return this item, but I've been waiting far too long. Make sure you don't make the same error I did. br>br>Oh, and there's one more thing. There is no tripod included with this item.
