Questions & Answers

In Garmin terms, how long is the "useful life" of this device?

In my opinion, this is primarily a legal term meant to prevent Garmin from insisting that they offer support for an obsolete device 50 years from now. This clause is vague enough that Garmin can choose to stop supporting certain devices at their discretion at any time. You must update the maps on Garmin devices for at least two years before they flag the device as "end of life" It has been removed from the maps and is no longer updated. As long as you keep updating it, I think it will last as long as you will want to use in the 21st century, it is not really worth using, so I upgraded it.

This model looks like it's based on LMT, right? Can I get lifetime updates for free?

For this model (the Garmin Drive 65), you will receive free updates for the North America map. It is necessary to update the software in order to make the device more functional.

What type of maps does it have for the U.S. and ?

The answer to the question is "yes" The accuracy of both of these can be attested to by me.

Is there Semi-Transparent Sealing on this Can you give me directions for my truck?

The following is a semi-transparent statement The truck navigation does not seem to be a good idea. A line of Garmin products is specifically designed for truck drivers. It is my 3rd GPS device, and it is by far the most inaccurate and inaccurate. The voice recognition is very bad, and the direction accuracy is as much as 4 miles off. In my line of work, I deliver pizza. This unit is awful. The end of this week I will begin working on TomTom for the third time. This unit can be yours if you buy it.

Buy the bundle only if you need it
3/5

In terms of its own performance, the GPS has been okay. Although the dashboard mount is not what is displayed online, it is a large square thing that opens like a suitcase and is magnetic, rather than the round sandbag. The stick would need to be attached- Magnet (supplied) must be attached to the back of the GPS to make it There is a problem with the back of the GPS, since it is not flat and the magnet might not adhere well to it. An example of the mount mounted on a cell phone is given in the instructions. It would be better to buy the GPS separately and ignore the bundle. The case that comes with it is way too big for the There is something kind of comforting about this whole bundle thing. It reminds me of those gift baskets that people get rid of their excess items. It's not possible to return the mount alone since it's part of a "bundle". If you wanted to return everything, you would have to do so. Because I spent a great deal of time setting up the GPS, I am stuck with this useless dash mount since I spent a lot of time getting it set up.

This GPS is the best value for money, and the dashboard base is awesome as well
5/5

In the past decade, I have owned a total of ten or more GPS systems for my vehicles. As we are four, one is required for each of us. With Garmin, you can enjoy your device for many years to come. Adding new maps to your library is also possible. I am very happy with this GPS. That's the best base I've ever seen. The tray does not slide or shift, yet it is very easy to move from one location to the next. It is truly amazing how accurate the GPS is. You can even download the History Channel app to learn about historical places on it. It shows you gas stations, restaurants, and other services. Traveled from Florida to Texas and back and had an outstanding experience. It's not only the GPS, but also the dashboard GPS base, that I highly recommend.

Do you mean this is a Garmin product? My GPS unit is one of three Garmin I researched thoroughly before purchasing a third Garmin and found there was quite a bit of negativity out there
3/5

Because of this I decided to stray away from the Garmin brand and choose an off-brand that is basically a small tablet with GPS maps. As I did not like the off-brand one, I looked at the Garmin again. The product had a lot of negative reviews but I decided to give it a shot anyway. In my experience, the Garmin is a frustrating device to use, both for long and short trips. Garmin does a decent job of navigating you to your destination if you get the "right address" in the Garmin, but getting the address into the Garmin for it to recognize where you want to go can be difficult for non-technical users. It is real. As I mentioned, I will try to explain more about what I mean. When you select the option of a new address/destination, I wish it would ask you whether the default state you are in can be used or a new state with the If you did not wish to use the default state and city on older Garmin devices, you had to select another state and Four things I would like to address 1. It is impossible to enter a new address into the Garmin, who does not understand what you have typed. *Stopping here. While entering a new valid address into the system, if it does not locate it, it either keeps spinning like it is making an attempt to find something and comes back with nothing or it comes back with different addresses than those you intended There is nothing more frustrating than this. 3.
You can change the state and city before entering a new address location and it will return other states for the address. Three key points. Inputting a destination address and it does not go to the correct location. *Stopping here. In searching I found the address I wanted to go to on Google Maps and I entered it, but Garmin wanted to take me to a different place. have tried this address two or three more times but the Garmin continues to display the same address. It was at this point that I became infuriated with Garmin. 4
The City, the State, and the Destination are entered, but the destination shows you're almost there already. *Stopping here. You may be able to enter a state and city before you enter a new address and it will find it and things seem ok, but it is confusing to see that after the address is entered, it may claim to tell you that you are less than a mile away from your destination. The Garmin might think you are about to arrive at that address because it is figuring out your location based on the address you typed in. In this point, all you need to do is ignore the item, and once it realizes you are not there, it will direct you to the destination you want to see. My apologies for giving it such a low rating before I could use it more to solidify everything I discovered was 100% due to the Garmin and not something I am doing wrong in some way. Please go back to the drawing board on searching for a new address, Garmin. If you are listening, please do so. In comparison to the other Garmins I own, this latest one simply frustrates me in trying to find an address the Garmin "approves" and then allows me to drive Additionally, it frustrates me when I am directed to addresses in other states I am not interested in going Input a city and state and I only want to see cities and states with addresses in those cities and states. The user can use it efficiently and effectively only if they are properly trained to do so. Overall, I am disappointed with this product, but I am determined to continue to use it.

The graphics are bigger than on a smartphone
3/5

A voice recognition system has been developed that- This GPS is my choice because I like the bigger graphics it has better than google maps on my business phone. It's nice to have lane assist in the Even though there's still some work to be done to catch Google's voice recognition, it's a huge improvement over my broken Nuvii, which rarely identified It is very busy on the roads In other words, for freeway use (when available, mainly in larger cities I travel to). rather use google traffic on my business phone, since it is more comprehensive (oh those darn small graphics on my In addition to reducing the backlight intensity more easily, just like I was able to do with the Nuvii, I'd like to see an easier way to disable the screen from being too bright. The last thing I would like to change is to not always have my saved favorites appear near a destination I have programmed. My favorite things to do are learn about the National Park and the history.

Although Garmin Drivesmart 65 is a great product you will find very few accessories to use it with
5/5

It was stolen shortly after I bought this one, so I bought another wide screen model (2797 LMT) when it failed to work. Sadly, Garmin doesn't offer any way to disable devices that have been stolen. A notable improvement over the 2797 LMT is I found it much easier to enter GPS coordinates now that it is much easier to find the feature. In places other than your locality, it is easier to enter addresses. A touch-screen - But the screen is a bit more fragile. I find the dash mount that came with it (suction cup mount in an empty sandbag block) completely There was no one there to It falls off the dashboard once it warms up, as it comes unstuck when the temperature on it becomes higher. Unless you are looking down at it from a bus driver, there is no right angle. For years, the old 2797LMT had mechanical fasteners that worked without fail. The carrying case is also included with the product. A lanyard is missing from the case, which means this is a great item. That must have been designed by who!.

Get the most for your money
3/5

I went on a family road trip to California and several times it tried to tell me to take a different route! It sent us off in the wrong direction the first time, and we hadn't realized it. We had traveled three hours in the wrong direction. To make sure I wasn't going in the wrong direction on the rest of the trip (it was between Washington and southern California and back), I had my cellphone out on google maps. Do not buy it. I won't let you down. The same thing will happen to you as well. If you don't have a smartphone, use your cellphone. It is worth it to save a little.

You should choose a base holder that is appropriate for your dashboard size
5/5

A 7-inch base holder is a good choice. I traded it for my husband's 7-inch Garmin which has a smaller base, and now the round base works with his larger dash on his larger vehicle. The round base is too bulky for my dashboard, so I traded it for his larger 7-inch Garmin. Though I haven't tried the voice function, I found the touchscreen to be very smooth and the maps easy to read.
