This does not seem to be the case.

How does the 898 C compare to the 898 D?

That should be the case. The method of adding a tag to my 1199 worked well, so I have no reason to believe it would not work with your 898.

It is easy to follow the course with heading features! My Solix 12 position information had become erratic, so I purchased this unit in order to increase accuracy

On my bass boat, I mounted it on a $25 Ram D VHF antenna mount (perfect thread match) about 18" in front of the motor. In this case, there was no interference. In addition, I'm using Solix Live Charts to figure out exactly what the depth of a historically significant bay in my area is. This allows me to run parallel tracks with close spacing so that I can cover the bottom of my DI and SI collections completely.

This is another excellent product from Humminbird

It works just like it should. With my Helix 12 SI, it's installed on the front. Using the new gps signal and the stationary heading indicator, I now have a better experience. You can program your Helix to use this external sensor instead of the internal sensor in the head unit by following the online video.

You should be aware of the location where you install

If you have not yet installed your boat, be sure to test the location Any motor, speaker, or magnet will cause the compass to be thrown off since it has a magnetic compass.
