Questions & Answers

Does it make sense to do this?

The answer for me and my family is a resounding "Yes!" In order to travel across the country with our two dogs, a Garmin Alpha 100 was bought for each. After the sun had set, our 75 lb male Australian labradoodle took off through unfamiliar terrain on the border of National Parkland at dusk, chasing a herd of deer. By using his collar, we were able to locate Despite almost two hours of tracking, we eventually found him wandering around and clearly lost. We can vouch for the collar as it was well worth the purchase.

If you receive an alert when your dog leaves the perimeter and you can give him a shock at full range, will he respond positively?

There are ways to shock them, but they must be manually dealt with. Leaving the geofence or radius of their radius does not trigger the shock automatically. It is very rare that I have to shock my dog since she usually responds immediately when she hears a tone or vibration.

I have a little 14 pound dog. Is it suitable for him. How big is the Jack Russell (compared to other large dogs)?

It would be best if you went with There are 15mini collars and they would work better for your Jack Russell because they are made for smaller dogs. It might be best to go with the 320 astro with the TT-L if you are not concerned about the shocking option You can use the 5mini collar, or if you just need to shock, not track, just get the Pro 70 collar.

Is there a way the touchscreen will function under damp, rainy, or wet ?

It has never been a problem for me using the touch screen in wet conditions, but it does not work well with gloves on, unless you have a glove designed with a It is not a problem for me because I rarely wear gloves.

The price was higher than I expected, but the quality exceeded As a result
5/5

Now that we've got the elephant in the room out of the way, let's talk about it. It is expensive to buy this collar and tracker. I hate it. That's a very, very, very big yes. That is the case for me, at least. The only con I have is that. Darn, I'm talking about you. Okay, so I think it has exceeded what my expectations regarding what it would do were met. We live in the country, so my dog loves to run around in my backyard, in the fields, as well as in the Most of the time she doesn't run more than a few hundred feet, and when she does run, it's usually to chase rabbits or other small animals. (Even though she doesn't catch them, they both get a healthy dose of adrenaline and some exercise. I LOVE that I can see exactly where she is sitting in my house, and how far she is from me. She is traveling at a fast pace. Moving is a sign that she is on the move. It's all there. My house is also a good location for it to work. All of us will have a different experience. I also take my dog hiking, and when I am on vacation, she has freedom to run around. According to the testing I did, this collar has a solid range of 2 miles in heavy woods, maybe even The training functions are what I use to get half the mileage (it boasts 9 miles, so I'm thrilled to get half in adverse conditions). It's mainly to get in touch with her again. As we say in the business, I like to "Page" her. When I use it, I rarely, almost never, shock people with it. From time to time, the collar will beep or vibrate.

The GPS module that comes with the collar is fantastic. Whether it's waterproof or not is irrelevant. When I threw it in the lake, it sank, so yes, I have tested it. It will not float, so do not expect to see a bubble. Thanks to shallow water, I was able to swim. really is one of the best System of notch notches. retrospect, I suppose I could have saved a little money by getting the model without the training functions, but I don't regret getting them. I occasionally use them, and I'm quite pleased with In the event that you can afford it, have a dog that runs a great deal, and want an easy way to keep track of their whereabouts, this collar is fantastic. Another thing that comes with it is a one year subscription to a map service. The following birds are available for download An eye-catching design You will need to view maps and then load them onto your device. I recommend using a micro SD card. It was frustrating to get it to work and set up, but it CAN be done. I bear witness to that. It's wonderful to have the maps loaded once the game has loaded. Can I spend $800 for peace of mind in knowing that in the event that my dog runs into a cornfield, a thick forest, or anywhere else, I'll always know where she is and which direction she's going? There is a steep price to pay, but it is worthwhile. Thank you for my purchase. I am very satisfied with it.

SportDog TEK2 is much better than this
4/5

In the weeks following the purchase of SportDog TEK2, we've been working with it for 5 months. I realized I had zero customer service to get my system to work, so I switched over to Garmin's Alpha/TT15 instead. A faulty GPS caused SportDog to replace the system five times before it finally worked. It was reported that the Sportday system has failed again and a new one won't be ready for at least two Hence, I asked for my money back and then bought a new computer. My main reason for buying the system is to keep track of my dog and to call him back when he gets out of the physical fence around our property. Despite being a rescue, he still has a problem. As a rescue, he was unable to be contained by a fence due to his previous owners. I'm impressed at how he can get out of a fence so easily. Then once out, you must Following his nose is what he does, and he does not cling to it. Despite being over a mile away, he can reach it in a few minutes. The suburb of Atlanta where I live is called Midtown There are no good solutions to this Our dog is kept in the fence nicely by an under ground fence we have had for years. However, when thunder storms blow through each summer, the underground system is destroyed. If there is lightning near, it will damage the surge protector ($70) and the underground wiring Hence, I had to replace the wire.

After four years, I replaced the wire again The old system had run its course, so I decided it was time for a new one. A GPS collar is great because it immediately alerts me when my dog is digging under the fence and leaves our property. I simply press the tone button and my dog hears a tone and comes running back to me. Regardless, I can look around and find him if he refuses to come with me. I also have access to its GPS system, which shows me where he left our yard so that I don't have to spend time trying to find out where he went Please fix the fence or fill in the hole so that I can get started. The Garmin system is much better for our large yard. I am so far much happier with it. (Good and Bad) Here's what I think about my initial impressions. Pros of
1. GPS tracking is much faster with the Garmin system due to its faster connection with satellites. 3.
With the new battery, the life of the device is longer. Sportdog TEK2 is a product of Sportdog. I did not have enough battery power for the Garmin's system is capable of lasting the entire Three key points. A touch screen is far superior to a screen on a Sportdog that does not have However, as you can see in the screenshot, there are some negatives as well. 4
It comes with an option to use Satellite view for free, which is very convenient when setting up the geo-references for your navigation system Defend your playground. This is a geopolitical issue A virtual fence is a fence that simulates the real thing. I am notified if my dog leaves the yard via the GPS feature on the remote control. Setting up the corners of the geocaching pattern is a snap. With the Garmin, you can keep track of your fence. This was the geopolitical situation Compared to the past, the pin feature allows for a much more accurate setting of fence corners. ** * 6. With the Garmin system, you get a long antenna (15 inches) as well as a short Having a choice is a good thing for me. An antenna with a long length is ideal for sporting dogs. The stubby antenna will be perfect for your yard dog if you have a big yard. There are a lot of features on the Garmin system that the SportDog system does not have. I. 7. You can turn on and off the LED lights for your dog from the remote control if you need to find them in the dark. This is "
8. ". It is much louder and has a much wider range of adjustment than Garmin. I. B. 4. I can see what my dog is doing (sitting, running, on point, tethered) by clicking the dog icon. A. Cons 1. The extra long antennas are annoying to my dog. It will take time for him to adapt to the new way of life. I know from my experience as an extra class amateur radio operator that the quality of a radio system will not exceed that of its There is no such thing as too long. 3.
It's difficult to read on the small screen. It is imperative that the system has a bigger screen in today's day and age and given the cost. In order to see what I want to see, there is too much zooming in and out. The auto zoom feature, however, zooms out further from you as your dog gets farther away from you and in towards you as he gets closer to you. It's nice you told me.
3. In order to improve the menu setup, the developer should solicit feedback from users. There are many steps to figure out how to do something. I have to look up the procedures in the PDF manual a lot of times. It is possible to customize the menu, however. Therefore, that is great news. 4
Touching the plus and minus icons on the touchscreen allows you to zoom in or out. Using two fingers on the screen would allow you to zoom in and out more easily. ** * 6. There is a black dog icon in the place where my dog is located on the map. There is no way to change the color. I think it would be nice to have the option to select a color that is more visible. I have 6. It would be convenient if you could move the geo-location of your account Once the fence pins are in place, they cannot be removed. In order to solve this problem, the fence needs to be deleted and the virtual pins must be reset. I. 7. You cannot return to the home screen by pressing the "home button" on the Garmin. You don't find a home icon when you are deep in the menus, despite there often being a home icon on the screen. When you see the home icon, you need to back out of the menu. This is "
8. ". Tones on the remote cannot be adjusted based on volume. There is not enough volume on the remote. I. B. 4. If a dog exits a geofenced area without being affixed to an alarm, it will not be affixed Defend your playground. In addition, a signal can be sent when a dog leaves a geo-fenced area, which could be a tone or vibration Defend your playground. There should be an option to let an alarm sound continuously until it is cancelled when a dog is leaving a geo-fenced area Defend your playground.

I was about to give up hope for my dogs, but the pound saved them
4/5

My property consists of three acres and I have two dogs. I've been having a hard time with my kids since they've always been running away to swim in the creek and sometimes causing havoc with the neighbors. Various methods of training or fencing have been tried, as well as regular wireless shock collars and Here are all the items! I have a piece of equipment that drives about a mile of valleys with dense forests, but that's enough to keep them away from trouble if they get too far away. My wife was about to give them away, however I decided to try this product as a last resort. There is no automated dog correction with the geo fencing, it only notifies you, it does not apply the correction to the dog. We used different collars for different dogs and the shock levels are great in comparison with the others. One dog tolerates the other collars but not this one. The main thing I learned after purchase is that this is a training tool, not an automatic perimeter surveillance system. He'll try to hold out for the 30 second cutoff that the others have, but eventually gives in. There are some cons as well - the battery life is short, the size of the collar is large and the price isn't too pleasant. The dogs get clearly upset when I forget to charge things the night before and they have to wait for the next day. They are a lot happier now they average six out of 10. You'll travel 200 miles a month if you drive 7 miles a day. As a result of other attempts to resolve my issue, I wasted thousands of dollars, and I wish I had purchased this sooner.
