My Suunto X-Treme has been with me for a while now. I've had a Lander for a long time and love it, except for one thing: the cheesy watch band. The cheap leather band was the only option, and the leather was so thin and weak that it constantly failed where the leather attaches to the buckle, tearing or coming unglued. Replacement bands are also not cheap, costing between $20 and $30. 30 each. This replacement band appears to be made of a heavy-duty synthetic material reinforced with tough nylon pack cloth, all of which is glued and stitched together with heavy thread. Suunto appears to have finally developed a wristband that matches their watch. Of course, only time will tell, but I am far more confident in this band than in previous ones.
As I've seen with others who have written here, Lander and the strap holder eventually broke. I didn't want to buy another plastic band, and I didn't want to pay an exorbitant fee to have a watch repair shop put on a new band that wasn't designed for my watch. This Suunto replacement strap has a fabric feel to it. It's not leather; rather, it's woven nylon, but it gets the job done and matches my watch nicely. A pen knife or, in my case, a small screwdriver that I use to tighten the screws on my glasses are essential for replacing the band. It's the right tool for pushing the pins inward so that the band can be properly placed in the case.
This is a step forward. Suuntos are among the watches I own. This strap is far superior to Suunto's shoddy watch straps. But. After a few washes (especially if worn in the ocean), this thing smells musty/nasty. Even with the stench, it's still far superior to Suunto's garbage straps. I'd buy it again and tell a friend about it.
The synthetic Yachtsman strap is fantastic, but it doesn't fit the CORE. The strap is well-made, with just the right amount of contrast stitching and a texture that is both subtle and pronounced, giving it a high-end look. a high-end appearance It's light, comfortable, and doesn't have that velcro-like strap smell. It also has the curved pins. It's a keeper, and I'm sure the small retainer strap will hold up!.
The Suunto Spartan is also compatible with this band.
I've had my Suunto watch since 1999 and have replaced the band twice with bands identical to the original leather band.
It's a great landing strap. Actually, it's better than the original because it's synthetic rather than the leather that came on mine; I'm hoping it will last longer and allow me to return to Denali!.
It'll take a while to break in, but I'm confident it'll outlast the lame-o version. It had a band on it at the time that was on it at the time.
