Questions & Answers

What happens when you receive a text from the watch? Can you read it or does it just notify you when one ?

Despite liking the previous answer, I think I should add that it will alert you when a new text arrives, as well as the first few sentences of the message. This is kind of like the phone alert you receive. In this case, the whole text will be shown on the watch face if it is a short text. As an avid hunter and fisherman, this watch has plenty of features for me. I am also an instructor in the Army and I attend meetings all day and the alerts help a lot with not having my phone on the table during half of the meetings and I know when to step out.

How does the GPS work? Does it use a GPS?

Yes, I agree.

It may be submersible, but does it just resist water?

A depth of 100 meters / 330 feet is the limit of the product's water resistance. The device is also submersible.

Most of the features of the watch need to be accessed via a smartphone?

For the most part, you do not need a smartphone to use our services. The watch itself includes most of these features, such as GPS, altimeter, barometer, sunrise and sunset times, moonphase calendar, as well as a digital compass and compass needle. It is useful to use a smartphone if you want to save your recorded activity and view it on a map, but you also can do this by connecting your watch to a computer (the watch comes with a USB cord for

I got this awesome watch from my wife for my birthday before I turned It was my wife's birthday gift to me when I deployed, so I got this awesome watch
5/5

My job is in the military, which requires me to do training and tactical exercises on the ground constantly. Suunto's Traverse Alpha comes with MGRS (military grid reference system), so I will always be able to keep track of my position on a map with 1meter. In addition, I chose the Movescount app because I could create a running profile to use for runs the GPS works well. The app also lets you see text messages, phone calls, and notifications that arrive on your phone at any time, which is great during meetings without having to take your phone out of your pocket. As I work with the different features of the watch, I'll be updating later. I've only had the watch for a few days, but I'll share my review later. Here's the update My company is conducting military training currently in Europe and I receive a call to gather at the new location that just went up in the middle of the woods as our base of operations. I finally decide to test it out, "What the hell, let's see how good this is"! "The move was 7 kilometers and the watch was so accurate that I knew where, at 2AM in the morning, I should turn under the cover of trees and in the darkness, to exit the trail. Unlike previous reviews that claim you can't, you can also load the GPS location from your watch to where you want to go (unlike previous reviews). Whether you're a military personnel, a hunter, a fisher, a runner, or just a regular person that enjoys wearing an awesome piece of tech- this watch covers all your needs. Here's the deal Take a stroll.

Following up eight months after initial consultation This review has been written 8 months after the purchase of a lousy product and horrible customer service
3/5

There will be no more charging for the watch. Charger has an unusual design with a cable with a standard USB connection on one end and a clip that attaches to the watch face on the other. I used to be able to use it, but it no longer works. Customer Service was of low to non-quality for me, which I will rate as poor to non-existent It is real. After 10 days, I still have not heard anything about a new cable, which they want me to try. It may be more suitable for you to work at Suunto if you believe a simple cable is likely to fail. As soon as the watch has been tried, I will have to send it to them. The watch will probably stay with them for a long time if they are unable to get a simple cable to me within 10 days (and counting). While I have always had a great deal of respect for Scandinavian companies, my lone experience with this Finnish one has given As a result, I have removed Finland from my travel bucket list. That's a sad state of affairs. Unfortunately, I don't need to depend on this watch since I have other choices.

Do not purchase the app
3/5

It is terrible. This is not a watch you should buy. There's no problem with the watch itself. The problem arises when data has to be entered or exited from Assuming the pairing is successful and the data is actually transferred, it usually takes about 10 minutes. As a result, you cannot edit your watch settings without an internet connection in the field. My autopause feature wasn't turned off when I used it the first time, so I was unable to Having no network connectivity meant that the app was unable to function, so I was unable to make changes to the watch settings in the field, so for two days I was unable to track my hike. My background as an engineer and experience building many Bluetooth products means that I fully understand why this abject incompetence in engineering is absolutely wrong. Supporting these folks and their third rate programming team is not a good idea.

Featuring the latest GPS technology and many useful functions, this is a great watch to use every day! The updated version was published on June 15, 2016

Watch this awesome video! My decision to buy this GPS watch was based on a thorough research of various models. I know this because I was planning to buy the older model Suunto Traverse a few weeks ago. A new version of the Suunto watch will be released in April 2016, according to the website of the company. The Traverse Alpha is the one I decided to wait for. For the GPS, it has additional features such as the hunting and fishing modes, as opposed to the older model. This watch has other features added that contribute to the increased cost compared to the older model, which are totally worth it, such as the textile band, textured bezel, and sapphire crystal. A scratch on the bezel of the earlier model would be more noticeable on the smooth surface. This new version's textured bezel adds a rugged look to the device, makes it more scratch resistant, and gives you greater clarity on the screen. Additionally, the textile band feels nicer on the wrist than the silicon band on the previous Comparing the newer model with the older model, I attempted to try it on at an REI. I would recommend this watch to anyone who is willing to spend I have researched the GPS of this watch on various websites and found a fair amount of people saying it works. Meanwhile, I also looked at the Garmin Fenix watches, and while everyone seemed to enjoy the watch for the most part, many people complained that the GPS was not Their breadcrumb trails on their Garmin Fenix would make it look like they went a long way off trail, thus making their total distance run appear longer than it actually was. The Suunto watches I have seen on friends and family members have all been very good to The customer I spoke to has the Suunto Ambit Peak 3 and reports that the GPS function works well. When I decided it was the right time to buy the Suunto Alpha, I felt more confident than buying any other GPS watch available. This watch is very functional with GPS for hiking in the backcountry and it will vibrate when a text or call is received, so I do not plan to purchase a watch just to check the time. I purchased this because I didn't want to buy a watch for checking the time. It was released in the fall of 2014 and I used it for a few weeks. I thought the notifications were useful, although the $400 price tag was too much for me. I found the Suunto Traverse Alpha to be everything I sought from the Apple Watch. With a smart watch that is battery-efficient and has features that my phone cannot offer off-the-grid, which was what I wanted in a smart watch. I liked the Apple Watch for its notifications since I mostly kept my phone on silent and I couldn't feel it in my pocket. This watch does everything I liked about the Apple Watch as well. So I never miss a text or call since I am always aware of the vibration on my wrist. There is no requirement for your smartphone to obtain GPS location, altitude, compass, or barometer readings from this watch. As with any standard GPS, it functions as expected. I was able to get about a day of battery life with the Apple watch. There are 5 days left. In the past couple days, I've been fiddling with the watch after it was fully charged a couple days ago. It's now only at 93%. Seeing as I don't need to charge this for nearly a week, I could certainly go longer without charging. The GPS function of an Apple Watch will drain it faster, however I don't need the GPS all of the time. I sold my Apple Watch shortly after I bought it because it only did what I could do with my phone. On my iPhone, I was prompted most times to open the app on the watch to use more features since it wasn't strong enough to do it. My device was an expensive piece of equipment that did no additional work for me. As a result, I now wear the Suunto Traverse Alpha since it does a whole lot of cool things and can be used for everyday tasks when it's paired with your phone. I would recommend it to everyone. As you can tell from my comments, I'm still very pleased with my watch. (Update June 15, 2016)

I've had it about a month and a half and am still loving it. lolI used it on a swimming trip and was pleasantly surprised that it was waterproof. Using it, you can quickly and accurately determine the water's temperature. As of right now, I do not wear a heart rate monitor belt. It would be interesting to know how it would go. The features I've been able to test sufficiently to give me an idea of the battery life to expect, which is probably what most people are interested in. Battery Life (See Below) I get my work email on my phone and get at least 50 emails a day, I'll probably send or receive 20 texts a day. Additionally, I receive some other notifications through the course of It takes me about an hour to write I get 90 notifications per day when the vibration is on in this watch. As a result of this general usage, I can expect to A battery will last five to two weeks if all you do is watch the time and get Another thing that helps is to keep the watch on "Locked" mode all day long so you don't accidentally push other buttons. My hand pressing the mode button when I'm sitting on the floor and reaching towards my wrist at a right angle causes the mode button to be pressed and it goes into compass or barometer mode which will consume more battery if left unattended. When left on the compass or barometer, it is not going to drain your battery within hours or within a day. As a matter of course, the compass will shut down after a few minutes. It is still possible to get between 1 and 1 1/2 weeks of battery life if you keep accidentally using these features, but if I keep my watch locked, I get at least that much. There are 5 weeks left. As I am leaving it alone I am noticing better battery life as opposed to when I first got the watch I played around with it too much. The best accuracy in GPS is based on the following "1) GPS" The last hiking trip I went on was several years ago. We went from Salt Lake City to Las Vegas last week to record our drive. In about 6 hours, the battery went from 100% to 13%. I'm going to Glacier National Park next month, but before the trip, I turned on my watch GPS on the highest accuracy to record the drive. As a result, you might receive Recordings of GPS with best accuracy for five hours. While I still had notifications active, you should be able to wear the watch on a wilderness trip without worrying about getting internet or cell service. If you are in the back country with no internet or cell service, I'm sure the watch would work even better. I can use the Movescount App to figure out exactly where I am located on the road. Using this mode, the software is extremely accurate. The GPS accuracy is good 2) This is a new one that I haven't tested The GPS accuracy is OK. The GPS accuracy is OK. As far as accuracy is concerned, this is the least accurate option. On the way home from Las Vegas to Salt Lake City, I tried this one. As a result of bad traffic, we drove 8 hours home, but the battery only depleted from 100% to 89% in 8 hours. Therefore, it could last around 72 hours on the least accurate setting. Despite the accuracy being good on Movescount though, the map isn't the most accurate. Only in some spots did it show me going off the road. There was a difference of only 50 meters in the measurement. On this test I also am going highway speeds, so it would probably cause it to be inaccurate even While hiking with this, I'd expect it to be more accurate when moving slower. Speed of a GPS connection My favorite part of this part was this one. The manual states that as you keep connecting to satellites, over time it becomes even easier for the watch to connect. There is truth in this part. The first time I used my GPS, it took a while to get connected, but now it is instant and I'm connected even when I'm inside a building. It developed a connection quickly inside a warehouse and began telling me my walking speed as soon as I turned it on. It's the first time a GPS of any kind did that. It's really great that it can do that as I know it will work great regardless of the thick vegetation I'll encounter when walking through. In general, your opinion of the GPS function is I think this is an excellent watch for hiking in the backcountry because it's rugged and useful. As well as the Movescount App, this watch offers plenty of other features. It was so cool to have a movie option from Suunto. In the Movescount App, you will be able to see things the watch won't show you like how the elevation or temperature changed during the route recording. This app contains a great deal of useful information. It wasn't a concern for me to carry a battery charger, since I carry a solar panel with me so I can charge my gadgets in the middle of nowhere. In any case, I mostly only do day hikes lasting up to seven hours, which is why I am able to record my entire hikes without having to recharge. When I go hiking next, I'll probably test the Good accuracy mode to see how it compares to the regular Within the next couple of months, I will conduct another update. As a whole, I was pleasantly surprised by the high level of accuracy of the GPS especially on the "Best" setting, and I was also pleased with the low-power "Ok" As long as the GPS accuracy on your mobile device is "Good" or "OK," that should be sufficient in most situations. It is a problem with the GPS that when we start a new recording it always defaults to setting "Best. ". If you want it to be "Good" or "Ok", you have to change it manually. would like to see you change the default setting. I still give it a five. No matter what, watch the stars.
