Questions & Answers

Why do various altitude readings appear to be a problem in reviews?

Most people are idoits, so they don't realize this is a classic altimeter that measures barometric pressure and needs to be adjusted hourly for a perfect reading. I took mine to Mt Sneffels and adjusted it for pressure, and it gave me accurate readings all over Colorado. All you need to know is that the weight of the atmosphere fluctuates slightly on a regular basis. When I leave it on my desk at home and don't touch it, it will occasionally report that the pressure has changed and that it is 100 feet higher than it was yesterday. It works well for me when I adjust it on a daily basis for mountain hiking. If you don't touch it at all, it'll easily get you to within 100 feet of actual altitude.

What kind of batteries do you need for it?

It's a great, simple product that doesn't require any batteries. It accomplishes the task at hand. Hiking, driving through the mountains, and even skiing are all things we do with it.

I'm looking for an altimeter to wear around my neck on hikes so I can see how much elevation I've gained and lost. Is this capable of accomplishing this?

That is exactly what it is for. It comes with a carrying case and a strong small rope that you can tie to your pack or wear around your neck. It won't calculate your elevation for you, but it will tell you how high you are now. It won t be 100% accurate at all times due to atmospheric pressure fluxation, but we are talking a few feet off and not hundreds of feet off not hund I used mine on a day hike up Mt Sneffels, and it was dead on at the summit.

Sb-Mt. Liberty Is this an altimeter for hiking? 400 ?

For competition shooting, I use my altimeter. In the event that my digital gear failed, I needed an analog device. It's been as accurate as my digital device so far, and it's simple to read. This is a device that I would recommend.

Okay, but the instructions were poor, and the price was high; however, this is how the system works
5/5

Of course, you'll need to know your elevation and set the black needle to it, and any barometer app on your phone should show you your current elevation. You must keep the zero position in mind. The altitude, for example, is 2100 feet. The zero barometer was 29, as far as I recall. As a result, if it moves while you're traveling, you can always reset it to zero to determine your current altitude. The barometric pressure can then be read with correct altitude under the "0" orange line. The barometric pressure is accurate for a mechanical device, but you can't read it if it's set to weather change, because the needle will show if the weather changes from normal, middle of fine, and rainy, which you don't want to be in. If you're in the middle of a storm or inclement weather, the needle change may not be accurate because normal is rainy, etc. It's only normal when the weather is nice and you can see the change if it gets better or worse. Even if the weather improves, it may still be rainy, but it will be a pleasant day. I wanted a battery-free portable analog meter, and this appears to be the most expensive one on the market because it's made in Japan rather than China. Because the outside ring cannot be locked, it can be accidentally changed if it is placed in a pocket or backpack; this is a poor design. Also, because it comes with a case and a lanyard, there's less of a chance of accidentally turning the ring, as long as you don't turn it while putting it in the case. This is only good for relative readings and isn't as precise as digital types, but it doesn't require batteries.

It wasn't exactly what I had hoped for
3/5

It does the job, but the case is a little thicker and lighter than I'd like. The inner dial displays barometric pressure, while the outer dial and bezel can be rotated to display pressure altitude (29. 92 millimeters of mercury), or corrected for local pressure. The bezel, on the other hand, moves far too easily, so you can't really set it and must instead re-set it on a regular basis. set it. I set it to 29 because I'm using it to calculate pressure altitude. 92, and then used electrical tape to secure it. Furthermore, the case is barely adequate. br>br> Given the unit's general fragility, I'd order the version with the rubber boot if I ordered it again.

Altimeter is excellent
5/5

Hikers will appreciate the quality of this product. Does a good job. br>I have it mounted in my truck, but I can only see it in daylight because it isn't lit. br>Place a small LED in front of it and see what happens. br>It's from GlowShift and comes in a pod. com. The hole in the pod was just a smidgeon too small. To keep the altimeter in place, it had to be sanded. It's comfortable, and I can take it with me on hikes by removing it from the pod.

For traveling, this is an excellent altimeter
5/5

We traveled across several mountain ranges in the United States on a road trip. and discovered that it is an excellent travel altimeter. We kept comparing the displayed altitude to road signs, and the altimeter proved to be extremely accurate. Changes in barometric air pressure were blamed for the minor variations. For easy viewing, we kept the altimeter in its case in our car's open center console. When we're climbing or descending steep grades, it's nice to be able to see the elevation. Also, flat plateaus in the west can be deceiving; they appear to be flat and low, but they can actually be quite high. Nice product that appears to be well-made. This book comes highly recommended.

This is exactly how it should be
5/5

After receiving a non-working item, I ordered this and received it. I returned a fully functional electronic altimeter and barometer. This makes me happy. It works well and is simple to calibrate, despite the fact that the factory barometer calibration is nearly perfect. Granted, as others have pointed out, the barometer scale should not be so small. My main interest was in the barometer, which is still readable with tenths of an inch hg markings. It is something that I would recommend. I'm sure you could look around and spend a lot more money on something more readable, but you're stuck with what you've got. The barometer is much more difficult to read than altitude readings. If you're only interested in the altimeter feature, there's no need to look any further; just get it.

an excellent demonstration It does a great job besides the altitude it has the Barimetric pressure so there is some fluctuation and you have to adjust it I live at sea level about 15 ft but depending on the Barimetric pressure it will show a couple hundred feet of difference I just returned from a six week vacation and drove thru nine states and over mountain passes as high as 11000 feet it was very useful and there are elevation signs at city limits and some passes etc
4/5

and we could check it and it ang it ang it.

In Colorado's Never Summer Wilderness Range, accuracy is accurate up to 12,500 feet
5/5

We used it to go fishing and hiking in Colorado's Never Summer Wilderness Range, which is at an elevation of 12,500 feet. We checked it at least 20 times every time we saw an elevation marker. It was never more than a hundred feet in either direction. When handling it, just remember not to turn the dial. Maintain the case's integrity. We use an altimeter to keep track of our location. With maps and a compass, we were able to find our way. When you're truly "out there," you can't rely on a GPS. br>Use them only when absolutely necessary.

This is an incredible gauge. It's been known to withstand temperatures as high as 100 degrees Fahrenheit for extended periods of time, as well as temperatures as low as 27 degrees Fahrenheit. br>I'm really happy with it.
