On the Sony Vaio, it resizes the C Drive
5/5

I've got a Sony Vaio PCV-S1 that's been around for a while. 120 GB partitioned RZ24G hard drive, with 20 GB on C and 100 GB on D. To make room on my C drive for the endless and dreaded Windows Updates, I was constantly moving and deleting old programs. It got to the point where I couldn't use the disk defragment program because the C drive didn't have enough free space, resulting in a sluggish computer. The program requires 15% free space and only 8% was available. To condense a long, vexing story into a concise and to-the-point narrative. I now have a 51GB C drive that I was finally able to defragment using the Partition Magic program, and it now works perfectly. It's as if you've upgraded your computer. Here's a sample of my work. I have a USB-connected external 500GB hard drive. I chose to install Partition Magic on an external drive, but the Partition Magic Program allows you to do so on the D drive as well. Then, for both the C and D drives, I used the computer's disk clean up program, and for the D drive, I used Disk Defragment because I didn't have enough free space on the C drive to defragment. Now for the fun part: start partitioning. Select the resize disk option from the menu wizard. It displays the C and D drives, as well as the amount of space available on each. Select the amount of space you want to transfer from the D drive to the C drive, then hit the apply button on the menu. The computer starts up in DOS mode and inquires about the Y: I didn't have access to a computer and had no idea what was expected of me. If you get stuck here, remove the Partition Magic disk from the CD/ROM and restart the computer, according to the instructions at the top of the screen. After that, I pressed Ctrl- To restart the computer, press Alt-Delete on the keyboard. Partition Magic immediately began transferring free space from the D drive, known as disk 1, to a temporary disk 2, which then transferred it to the C drive, known as disk 3. After that, the computer will prompt you to reboot, and you're done. The entire process should take between 45 and 1 hour. I hope you found this information useful.

The Nightmare of Partition
3/5

Summary: br>br>*On Sony Vaio, partitions on prepartitioned hard drives will not expand. br>*Cannot undo process after product stops at step 3 of 3 with various error codes. (They should perform the checks first, then begin the process; they should not complete steps 1 and 2 of 3 only to stop at step 3 of 3 and leave your hard drive in "partial-access" mode. ) a state of completion"
*Will cost you 50% of your refund with Amazon (Amazon's return policy on opened software)
*Don't use Amazon's prepaid return label)
*Will They'll take $4 from you. 98 for them to return the item; You will save 50% if you return it with your own postage . br>br>I would not recommend this product for two reasons: first, it is a product: br>br>If you own a prepartition hard drive, such as those sold by Sony, HP, Compaq, and others, don't buy this product. I used to own a Sony Vaio desktop computer with a 120GB hard drive that I bought about 5 years ago. They partitioned the hard drive so that the C: drive would have 15 GB. drive, and the remainder to D: Without a doubt, the C: drive will degrade over time. Even after deleting a few rarely used programs and "cleaning" temp files, the drive had only about 350 MB of space left. Rather than purchasing a new computer, I hoped to expand the C drive. br>br>So, on the advice of a salesperson at a local office supply store, I decided to buy Symantic's Partition Magic to expand the C: drive. Partition your hard drive. It asked me a few questions about what I wanted to do after I loaded the product; In my case, I'd like to expand the C: drive by reserving a portion of the D: Drive; it appears to be a simple task, doesn't it? wrong! br>br>The process is kicked off by Partition Magic. (It's a three-step process in this case). Running the first two steps takes about three hours. Then, on step 3, an error message appears that says "too many errors on drive" or "code - When I reboot, the drive is in a partially changed state, with Partition Magic creating an unallocated drive, giving me three drives on my original disk. I attempted to "undo" it, but PM refused. After that, I tried running PM several times with various settings, but none of them worked, and none of them restored my computer. br>br>The return policy is the second reason I don't recommend this product. While Amazon explicitly states that any "opened" software product will be returned with 50% "restock fee", Given that the product does not work (on my computer), I believe this is outrageous. Worse, it couldn't even restore the state of my computer. As a result, I spend a lot of time trying to get the product to work, and I end up "spending" around $30 for my time and effort. (original cost of PM, less 50% restock and $4) 98 postage)br>br>If you want to be completely ripped off, get this product!

It has now been resolved
5/5

Norton's PM was the correct FIX for my specific problem. I have a Dell laptop that I use for both work and play. Similarly to a large number of other non-profit organizations, I added a number of programs and data over time, not realizing that my hard drive was partitioned in such a way that most of my programs, data, and other items ended up on the smaller "C" drive with plenty of space left on my "D" drive. OK, I should have managed the space better, but I didn't, and as a result, I simply MAXED out the space on my "C" drive. With little help from other well-intentioned people, I finally I installed the software on my "D" drive, followed the instructions, and resized my "C" drive to give myself a lot more room. The story has come to a close, and I am satisfied. Good luck to everyone who isn't a member of the military. There are a lot of geeky people around.

The moniker MAGIC is entirely appropriate
5/5

I wasn't sure how I was going to transfer the image from the old to the new harddrive without completely reinstalling everything after deciding to upgrade my laptop's harddrive. It's simple with a desktop. You can use the software that comes with the drive to copy an image from old to new by temporarily plugging the new drive into the drive controller and setting it up as a secondary, but this will not work in a laptop. If you have an external USB drive, Partition Magic makes it simple to do this. Simply connect the drive, launch Partition Magic, delete any existing partitions from the external drive, and then copy your laptop's entire partition to the external drive. Put the new drive in the laptop after it has been turned off. Start the computer by inserting the Partition Magic CD into the drive. Copy the partition from the USB external drive to your new laptop drive, reboot from the new drive, and then either expand the partition on the new drive to use all of the new drive space, or create other partitions. Partition Magic can even aid in the creation of machines that run multiple operating systems. As I previously stated, this product is deserving of its moniker. It's a work of MAGIC!.
