As soon as we started using computers in my office in 1980, I tried a bunch of them to find one that worked like I did, or rather that didn't work like I did so the software could do the fine things I missed too often because of my eager beaver mind. The big stuff and the small stuff are found by Abby. During the past few weeks I have scanned in yellowed copies of typed reports and The typed stuff is scanned through Abbyy to produce strong blacks that are clear to see, and the type is read for me so I can make sense of the type and correct mistakes made by the scanner. After it passes through the printer, it looks as if it were just drafted, despite the fact that the original documents date back to 1860, copied using 1970 technology, and then it goes through the printer again. In spite of the handwritten nature of the text, Abbyy allows me to set its parameters for optimal readability and feed this info to the scanner with each successive yellowed page.
