The tasks of securing a computer and backing it up now run in the background
5/5

The first time I encountered Windows OneCare was in 2005 when I took part in a Beta project. If not for Symantec's Norton AntiVirus, which had become a real resource hog, and McAfee's products, which did not meet their claims, I would not have gotten involved. Norton AntiVirus had been my loyal companion since the early days when Peter Norton ran the company that pioneered anti-virus technology, one that many of us still use today There was a time when that was true, but now this is the case. Following a series of problems with Norton products that were not well-resolved, I dropped their products It is widely documented in the 'computer geek' community, and Grisoft's AVG Free antivirus is being rolled out The systems on which I work have been infected with viruses. Microsoft released Windows OneCare about a year later, and after taking part in the Beta test, it seemed the product had few bugs and had a lot of promise. Once the Beta test ended, however, I standardized my computers with AVG Anti-Malware. The virus free edition was used, and that was until I saw an associate install the virus free edition late last spring.

Without a doubt, the best protection! The product is no longer available
5/5

OneCare has been running on my PC's for a little over a year, all I can say is that from the day I installed the trial version, I loved it so much that I needed to purchase a full license. One of the most impressive features of this product is its ability to run in the background. It looks like an icon in the tray unless you have a problem. It can be set to run in the background at all times. It is easy to determine your status based on the variations of green, yellow, and red. I find this to be extremely helpful and has no downside Your computing experience will be disrupted. You can also access the OneCare circle, which offers a unique feature that allows you to see the status of each of your networked computers! The fact that I have a desktop, laptop, and "server" setup on my home network made this very useful. It has the advantage of being able to go to any one of the three and get all the information about the other two (last backup, tuneup, virus scan, etc. ). Also, I cannot get enough of the backup feature. This is so quick, easy, and efficient I can't even stand it. This option gives me the ability to select the type of files I want to back up and the location in which they should be stored. The backups I kept at home were saved on a server setup that I had installed in my closet. It also lets you use a CD, USB drive, or even a hard drive of your own.

Overall, this program has been fantastic in keeping my vista computers running smoothly! It has never been infected with a virus, and the auto updates, auto tune ups, and even automatic backups run seamlessly and without hiccups. This is an excellent viral protection, firewall, and backup solution. This is my favorite and best all in one antivirus protection, firewall, and backup software! The email I just received from Microsoft announcing the discontinuation of OneCare has not come down to a halt, however they are extending subscriptions for two more months free of charge to current subscribers. A communications email will also be sent to current subscribers early 2010 to inform them of what Microsoft has taken over from.

There is no better backup software out there than OneCare Backup
5/5

My family and I have been using OneCare since it first came out almost It was the end of my tenure with Norton/Symantec products. There is a noticeable improvement in the efficiency of OneCare. If you see the performance drop like with Norton when it performs its tasks like virus updates, virus scanning, defragmentation, and file cleanup, you will not notice it. Since the backups are incremental, they take very little time (after the first one) regardless of whether they are downloaded to a DVD or a hard drive. Norton was virtually unusable on my older laptop. In particular, Norton 2002 and older versions are very hard to get rid of. Although I did have to reload the operating system and one of the apps under OneCare, the old laptop worked like a charm Norton can be removed by getting rid of all its software. Since I had OneCare backups, I was able to accomplish my task of restoring all the data from the hard drive which failed unexpectedly. There's only one complaint, since I did not want to restore everything. I was able to search for filenames only. Several entire directories were unable to be retrieved, and I would have loved it if it had returned directory names. In addition, one drawback of the backups is that they're encrypted, which means you can only access them if you have There is always the option of downloading the trial version and using it to restore the backup. In most cases, you don't need anything inside the box, except for the license key when you buy the boxed version (usually cheaper than downloading it). You can download the latest version by using the software on the CD or by going to the There is a lot of stuff in the box, and it is It has to be a theft - Preventing waste is a good thing since it preserves resources. It is likely that the plastic is recyclable, however. Several of my friends have installed it on their PCs as well. I have it installed on two of my PCs. You are required to have a (free) Windows Live ID that you need to keep track of in order to install it on additional computers You renew (get the key from the new boxed version ) if you don't have one A new one-year subscription period does not begin until the old one expires, so you can extend your subscription whenever you find a good sale on OneCare, though I did this only about a month before it expired.
