Selected User Reviews For Norton Systemworks 2006 [OLD VERSION]

For Windows XP and Win98, I can't live without it
5/5

This is the first time I've written a review for this product. Will do one soon. Since the days when Norton used to operate, I've had my machines saved almost every day, at least once a month. The NSW 2006 licenses are hard to find, so I have just bought three more after being unable to find them before (now have nine sets, and I believe each license is good for The installer need not be installed you may use the program directly from the CD. It is better to try it out on your machine via the CD first.

I have used this program suite since I got my first Windows PC in the year 2000, which someone had trashed. Fortunately, NSW 2000 gave me the ability to recover the registry for that PC. In this case, the owner of the machine tried to convert it from a Win95 machine to a Win98 machine (who didn't know how to wipe his drive). When he couldn't do it, the machine was trashed. A janitor named Jesus, who knew me, decided to save the discarded machine. A couple of weeks later, on my pastor's birthday or roughly the first week of it (1st April), he found me and gave me the Micron machine. Since then, I have used this software. In fact, I and my newly married husband both paid a visit to NSW 2006 right after we got married. When I purchased XP, it was a great experience. It can recover your machine from updates, from installations, from anything that happens, and it is part of Norton's GoBack product line. (I had Wildfile GoBack, In addition, there are many tools in the "Optimizer" and "Check It Diagnostics" that are meant to make Windows There is also a One Button Checkup option. This is one of the best things about Win98. As far as editing or fixing the registry is concerned, 'one button' only means that the process will run automatically, as opposed to the rest of the utilities, which can be operated manually or interactively. It is absolutely necessary that you install this software if you are still using Windows 98. Changes to drive letters and folder locations are the two biggest categories of registry fixes (i. e. This is especially important if you move a program from one location to another) and if you see entries referring to uninstalled programs which were not installed In time, the more entries in your registry that clog it up, the slower Windows boots, and eventually it cannot That's why it's crucial to clean up your registry. Most people look at the job of cleaning it as intimidating, and yes, it This program has been a godsend for me because of that. Although I had no experience with Windows when I got that trashed machine, Norton made it simple to learn, and I was able to use it as soon as I learned it. In my second review, I introduced you to this fantastic program that rescued my Windows machine from Jesus, and this wonderful program works well with XP. Windows XP's flexibility and functionality are less than those of Windows 7. Nevertheless, it is not all that A bad registry entry is usually left behind after Windows or a program update. With this tool, bad entries are found and fixed. On my XP machines (I now have five), I still run it on a weekly basis. The Windows operating system always allows the user to undo changes made, so if you make changes, you can undo them and restore the machine as if your changes hadn't been made. is no longer able to edit the registry properly. Fortunately, you can get TuneUp Utilities 2011 and later for that, which come with a lot of the same features as Norton. does not have GoBack or virus prevention *) Since Symantec took over NSW there have always been complaints. The complaints I voice echo those of others. In fact, the easiest way to avoid the virus protection is never to install it, and to turn off Live Update (they force you to install it). Early on in my life, I learned how to do that. Don't let the partially-completed job get in the way of your healthy life It will stop you from buying it if you are still using XP because of the bad stuff reported (mostly correctly). It is worth a couple of days of angst that you would otherwise endure with every Windows update or any program update that ruins your machine. Many people swear by It, so online search for 'GoBack', see what other people have to say about it. In my opinion, it is a must-have. It works with Macrium Reflect 5 Pro, not with EASEUS or Acronis or Rebit.

Let's be honest Since I began using it 13 years ago, this program has become integral to my daily life. It's become so common for me to save Windows crashes using GoBack, that I can't keep up. It can be turned off and on, and when you do that there's a long wait since GoBack deletes every continuous snapshot it takes of your system's performance. In the event of a crash, if GoBack boots your machine pre-Windows, it's a sweet thing to literally TIME WARP back to the point when your machine is operational. You get to see everything that went down prior to the crash, which can help you figure out why things know when to turn the clock back. GoBack keeps a continuously updated history of your computer activity. Try TuneUp Utilities for the best results. TuneUp 2011 here in Amazon was reviewed a year earlier as well as its 2012 and 2013 counterparts. In terms of things it does, Norton is better than TuneUp, except that it doesn't allow you to go back (MagicCure does, although it does so in a slightly different way Macrium Reflect 5 Pro also doesn't). Unlike most other antispyware programs, TuneUp doesn't contain any Neither antivirus software nor utilities are present on the computer, so you don't have to worry about them. ) I However, they are too many to list. If you have any questions, please post them in the comments section. Every time I leave a comment, Amazon emails me, so I'll see it and come answer the question. There is a lot of housekeeping your PC needs, and most of Windows' defaults will probably not be to your taste. In the absence of learning 'GodMode' in Windows (a secret folder in Windows that you create to access the contents of a tabbed menu for tweaking pretty much anything in Windows), here's what you should do It is safer this way.

I found it too cumbersome and injected itself into too many startup files. It also consumed too many resources.

This version of Norton SystemWorks 2006 is available for free download
5/5

In my opinion, it is the best security software since sliced bread. I cannot understand why there is so much negativity surrounding this product. Purchasing an installation CD is all you need if you've never had a Norton System installed on your computer. In the book there are instructions on how to install the software. As an example, if you had the previous version of Norton Systemworks like I did (Norton Systemworks 2005), here's what you would Remove first your previous Norton SystemWorks by opening the "ad/remove" window in the control panel. As soon as your PC restarts, go back to the ad/remove window and remove Norton Go Back. You may have to wait a few moments after you reboot because Norton seems to have additional deleting to do. In the next step, you will delete "Live Update" and then turn your computer off and restart. It's now going to be very fragmented on your hard drive. recommended that you defragment the C drive before trying to install the program. From now on you can install the software from the CD. Taking your time to complete the whole nine yards may take some time, but follow the instructions. If your computer is asking you to set up a new account or sign into the old one, it is probably a good idea to set up a new one to avoid confusion, so let your present subscription almost expire. In addition to the full installation, the system will run a full virus checkup and multiple check ups. The whole process will take about two hours. This program is amazing. It lasts for 3 hours.

If you have an SSD and are using Windows Home SP3 (my preferred OS), don't laugh
3/5

It works perfectly. As far as my experience goes, this product works great on my Quad Core Dell Optiplex 760 running Windows XP Home SP3 (my preferred operating system). It also works well Well, the installation did not succeed. The computer would not even boot up. First, I had to stop GOBack at the BIOS level, then Windows started working. By using "add and remove programs" in the control panel, I eliminated the program. The uninstaller was unable to complete the process. As a result, I tried to do a system restore in Windows. My system had been ruined by this thing. The thing was still on the programs to remove list. In my search of the internet, I came across a program called " Norton Removal Tool". My computer ran it after downloading and running the "exe" file. I was able to make it work! The next thing I did was to create a system restore point and restart. The service was also restored. I am in awe of such a beast! You should avoid this product as it is infected with a virus. It was a waste of 2 hours.
