Zoombinis Logical Journey - PC/Mac

I bought it for him in 2004. I was both educational and entertaining at the same time. I'm writing this review because I recently discovered this game and allowed my other son's daughter to play it while she was spending the weekend with me. She adored it, despite the fact that it appears to be of low resolution. I'll even play it now and then to pass the time.

The bottom line is that it works (though not flawlessly). On our computer, the sound was a little strange, but it was still fun to play! br>br>The game's premise is that you must solve increasingly difficult logic puzzles in order to save your Zoombinis and transport them to a fantastic new home. Because I've always been a little bit logical, even as a kid, I've always made the challenges as easy as possible by putting the maximum number of Zoombinis of each type (2) on each journey, and then having them all be the same, but with different shoes, noses, etc. This also made it easy to keep track of which Zoombinis you've already played, because the randomly generated ones don't take this into account, and if you play the game a lot, it takes br>br>Not only is this game super cute, but it also teaches kids how to solve logic puzzles in a fun way. This game exemplifies how to make learning fun. br>br>Obviously, this game was made a while ago, so the graphics aren't as cutting-edge as recent games, but the meat of the game is so good that you can overlook it. Furthermore - The cost is reasonable. This game should be re-released, in my opinion. released as an iOS game, but until then (which is unlikely to happen), it's still playable!.

I bought this for my PC to give my grandchildren something to do when they came to visit. Despite the fact that the game's requirements state that it requires Windows XP and I have Vista, I was hoping that by using the Compatible Wizard, I could get it to work on my machine. The game installed without a hitch and started playing right away, showing how the Zoomblinis were enslaved and how they managed to escape. The game crashed when it started (the first level). I tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times, but the game would only get to the first level and then crash. If only the game had worked, the graphics were stunning and the storyline was fantastic. So I uninstalled the game and decided to give it to my 4-year-old great-grandson, who had access to a computer running Windows XP. Installing and running the game on a PC running Windows XP was a breeze. However, after installing the game, I noticed two things. To begin with, it omitted the first part of the game, in which you saw and heard the events that led to the Zoombinis being forced to flee their slavery. But that was fine because my great grandson was more interested in playing the game than figuring out why my great grandfather had escaped. The second flaw I noticed in the game was that some of it was missing- The part with the menu icons was the most interesting. You had to guess which icon to click to get what you wanted because you could only see the edges of the icons in the bottom right hand corner. Because only a portion of the icon could be seen, my 4-year-old grandson had trouble remembering which icon to press to advance to the next level. Many times, instead of moving on to the next level, we went back to the map. br>br>This game is a hit with my grandson, especially the pizza-making level. Because of the issues with the icons, we didn't get very far into the game. After repeatedly pressing the wrong icon, it took far too long to advance to the next level. br>br>My in-laws' daughter in-laws' daughter in-laws' daughter in-laws' daughter in Law's monitor isn't a wide-screen monitor, which is becoming increasingly popular, so this could be contributing to the display not filling the entire screen for this game. I'm not very computer literate when it comes to computer hardware, but maybe there's a way to make her monitor's screen smaller so that it will show the entire game screen. If anyone has a suggestion for how to get this game to display properly on her monitor, I'd appreciate it because my grandson loves it. br>br>I only gave this game three stars because of the way it appears on my daughter's computer screen. However, for those who do not have this problem, I highly recommend the game because it appears to be a fun game, particularly for children.

This is one of the very first CDs released. My rather precocious daughter has been stumped by the following roms: She is annoyed by it and does not spend hours clicking away at it. Surprisingly, I consider this to be a positive development. Because there is no penalty for guessing in most of her other learning software, she became skilled at identifying the pattern required to progress - They're nothing more than glorified multiple-choice tests - By simply clicking on everything, you can make it simple. Sure, she can learn a lot from them, but I've always thought of it as a way for her to cheat. br>In this program, if she makes a mistake, she loses one of her little guys, which eventually prevents her from progressing. So guessing doesn't pay off - To move forward, she must consider what is correct in a systematic manner. She also won't be able to go back in time and redo something. Instead, she must restart the game from the beginning, with a fresh set of challenges. br>The logic section of this software also impresses me. In various contexts, the player must recognize which features from sets and subsets are relevant. That means systematic and abstract thinking, but in the form of a fun game journey with creatures the player creates at the start. My daughter is stumped by some of it right now, but once she figures it out, she will have completed a difficult puzzle, possibly with long-term consequences for her reasoning abilities. While not as slick as some other CD-ROMs in terms of design, It's good enough for roms. Overall, one of the best learning cd-roms available. I've never seen any roms like this before. It puts a lot of pressure on my child, which is exactly what I wanted. br>It comes highly recommended.
