It's not 100% secure
3/5

To begin, you'll receive a plastic card with an authorization code (no CD included). You log on to the internet, create an account (or use an existing McAfee site account), enter your code, and your PC is ready to be downloaded. They keep track of your downloads so that you can use three computers at the same time. Even with McAfee, one of our laptops was recently infected by a virus and had to be completely cleaned out by a PC shop I use, so I bought several of these three license McAfees and keep several PC/laptops updated in our small office. BTW, these are just plain old office work PCs that are being used on healthcare sites. Some people do not even have access to the internet. mails. McAfee isn't completely safe, in my opinion. br>By default, this "family" package is set up to block "non-family" websites. family". It blocks 50% of sites, which is a problem. For instance, I am unable to view Black Friday electronic store sales because the content is deemed to contain sex. In order to use the computer for normal purposes, I had to unblock almost all types of content. I believe I only have pornography on my computer. For it to be blocked, violence had to be checked. So, what is the point of having to undo a feature in order to use the software?.

I've never had such a bad TS
3/5

Without a doubt, the worst TS I've ever received for any product or service I've ever owned. The product did not come with a CD as advertised, so I had to get it from McAfee, which was not a big deal. Installed and configured accounts, but when accessing the web, it does not prompt for a login, rendering the product useless. I spoke with a representative who directed me to fee-based TS, where I was asked to pay $20 for TS assistance on a product that didn't work right out of the box. The agent didn't appear to have a strong command of the English language, which made things even more difficult. I worked as a TS supervisor for a major PC manufacturer and did all of my own troubleshooting. Very dissatisfied with McAfee and will never buy from them again. I will also push my company to stop using McAfee if this is the service they provide, as it is bad for our image to be associated with this kind of service. The product may be great if it works (which I doubt), but if it doesn't, you're in big trouble.

There are issues with the software, but not with the vendor
3/5

Justin Hong took my order for McAfee Family Protection. The serial number on the item was expired when I received it. I first assumed Justin was pulling a fast one on me, but it turned out to be a McAfee issue. Justin was very prompt in informing me of the problem and sending me a replacement copy at no cost. Due to the fact that others were having the same issue, he eventually gave me a refund. Despite the fact that the product and McAfee's registration process were both flawed, Justin went out of his way to make things right. In an on-the-go world, I really value that. seller on the internet.

McAfee is the most effective anti-virus software
5/5

On the market is a virus. I experimented with a variety of different anti-inflammatories. McAfee appears to be the best anti-virus product I've tried thus far.

Although not perfect, it is more than adequate
3/5

We have three children (all under the age of 13) who use the internet; the computer they use is in an open common area in our home, and we use Windows Parental Controls to limit and monitor their online activities. Of course, no system is flawless, and any flaw can be exploited. However, because it is combined with education about online hazards, it is suitable and largely effective for our home. br>br>Limiting the amount of time a child spends online during the day is one of our most pressing concerns, especially now that summer vacation has arrived. Because one or two kids are frequently left home alone for a few hours (our youngest is too young to be left alone), it's difficult for us to keep track of how much time they spend surfing. br>br>One of McAfee Family Protection's most appealing features is the ability to set a daily online limit for each user. I didn't turn off Windows Parental Controls, so I enabled some of the other blocking and monitoring features as well. br>br>Installation was simple - Register on McAfee's website, enter the registration code from the box, and download the software. The installation went smoothly, and it was completed on time. I had to consider my options. Was the software already running? There's no manual in the box, and there's none online. When I ran the installed program, I was taken to the installation screen, where I was able to set it up fairly quickly. br>br>I have a couple of minor quibbles with the way configuration is handled. First and foremost, there are no pre-set configurations that are recommended - For each child, you must create your filters from the ground up. Second, each child is given a separate account in the software from their Windows account, and their account name must be unique among all McAfee Family Protection users. br>br>Because each user's configuration is saved on McAfee's servers, they'll find the same restrictions if they use a different computer in your house (where you've installed the software). The online clock starts when the user is logged in to McAfee Family Protection, so if a child is allowed 2 hours per day online, he can't use up his 2 hours and then switch to another computer for another 2 hours. br>br>If the child is writing a paper or playing a game, they'll need to log out of Family Protection, otherwise they'll use up all their time without being online. br>br>Web filtering is thorough and takes a conservative approach. I discovered that Club Penguin was blocked because it contains in-game content. Chat about the game. It was simple to work around this by adding the website to a whitelist, but it reveals another flaw in the software: You can't use Windows Parental Controls to filter based on a site's rating. Again, this is erring on the side of caution (due to the fact that these ratings are voluntary and self-administered). imposed), but it would have been a nice feature and would have reduced the number of sites I've had to whitelist. br>br>The kids' computer is an older Vista computer, and I've noticed that the browser responds more slowly at times. Because all of the activity is sent to McAfee's computers for approval, there will be some delay. However, I haven't noticed any significant slowdown in the computer's processor. McAfee's strategy makes sense in theory - They can update the list of approved sites and software, but antivirus companies do the same thing by downloading signature files to your computer. br>br>The software blocks (or records) chat and file-sharing programs, but I couldn't test those features because we don't use them. I believe that text messaging or Facebook chat will eventually supplant IM for many people. In conclusion, once you've figured out how to use the software, it's not difficult to use. A manual would have been beneficial (the program's help function only offers limited assistance). I'm not sure if the software is worth keeping for us, but it does what we need it to do. It's a bit of a pain to administer and use, and I'm not sure if the payoff is sufficient for us. br>br>If you don't have anything right now, this will help if you take the time to properly set it up. It should be used in conjunction with other strategies, such as teaching your children and preventing them from having computers in their rooms. If you're looking for a bullet-proof vest, you've come to the right place. This isn't a fool-proof solution. There isn't a single one to be found. A bootable Linux CD is all that's needed to get around any monitoring software (or Windows). They will be able to freely browse the internet if they use a different operating system. br>br>On a related note, McAfee Family Protection is the same product as Safe Eyes, rebranded for McAfee.
