Questions & Answers

Is it possible to get a copy of this?

"Online features" require Internet access and are subject to change, according to the back of the box. "I don't see any mention of it being downloadable." I have everything in the box, but I haven't opened it yet. If you really want it, you can get it for a low price. Virginia Haynes can be reached at [email protected]. net

Is it possible to get a refund for this?

No, I doubt it. Perhaps you should first try the demo version.

Will Windows 10 support this?

Quicken 2008 may be incompatible with Windows 10 right now or in the future. If you're having problems, you could try using compatibility settings, but this isn't always a good idea. I'm running Windows 10 and using Quicken Home and Business 2016 with no issues.

Is it Windows 7 compatible?

Yes, I believe it is, despite the fact that I just upgraded to Quicken 2012. I don't always update when a new version is released.

During the first interview, the computer crashed
3/5

I'm sorry for having to join the chorus of boos about Quicken Home and Business. Quicken creator Intuit has two rock-solid products. products that are solid: TurboTax and Quickbooks Pro are two of the most popular tax software programs on the market. Quicken used to be a rock-solid program, but that is no longer the case. br>br>I used Quicken from 2000 to 2005 before abandoning the program. As many reviewers have pointed out, Intuit forces you to upgrade every few years or so by removing one of the program's core competencies: the ability to download data from your bank accounts. While I don't agree with the practice, I understand why they do it and would be willing to overlook it if the upgrades that resulted were of high quality. This is the source of the issue. br>br>In my case, I went through the initial interview (part of "Express Setup"), which is required to get started in Quicken after installing it on my Windows Vista SP1 machine. Everything goes smoothly until I click "finish" on the interview, including Quicken's recognition of my bank and the various accounts I have there. Quicken then crashes every time. A crash in the MSVCR80 is the source of the issue. dll, which is part of Microsoft's C Runtime Library and is used by Microsoft Office and other programs. My Quicken installation has been uninstalled, reinstalled, and repaired several times. I've tried running as an Administrator and without the use of UAC controls. Nothing. br>br>I then went to Intuit's website to look for answers, but there was nothing on MSVCR80. dll. I attempted to contact customer service by phone, but they are only available during business hours, and this occurred on a Saturday morning. I tried live chat and was unable to connect with their service; however, I was able to connect with their service but not with an agent the next day, as their service simply disconnected me before an agent came on. On many occasions. br>br>So there you have it, the same verdict as PC Magazine: I could live with Quicken forcing you to upgrade if the resulting application was rock solid. br>br>If Quicken was fast, I could live with it. br>If Quicken was stable, I could live with it. br>I could live with it if Quicken's connection to my bank was seamless and downloads were always successful. br>If Quicken wasn't such a resource hog, I could live with it. br>br>However, forcing customers to upgrade and then providing a product that is so bloated and unruly that you can't get past the first interview? That is not acceptable, my friends.

Make Your House Feel More Like Home I've been using Quicken since it first became available in DOS format in 1991
4/5

92). It has simplified my overall bookkeeping, and I was able to transfer my figures into Turbo Tax with ease at the end of the year. It's simple to set up, and once you've got a posting system in place, it'll be easy to stay on top of almost all aspects of your accounting. br>The unfortunate part about Quicken is that I was using the 2005 version and was forced to upgrade by Intuit in order to keep downloading my bank account figures. This is the first time I've been truly dissatisfied with Intuit, and I recommend that any buyer consider the possibility of having to upgrade every few years. br>I strongly advise you to purchase Quickbooks instead if you have itemized inventory and detailed accounts receivables.

Intuit products should be avoided because they are deceptive
3/5

Quicken Home is a program I bought. Business 2008 was purchased to replace the 2006 version for which my wife had misplaced the installation disk. The first issue was that the 2008 installation overwrote (that is, destroyed) the PATH on the PC. This means that Quicken will continue to function normally, but any other software that relies on the PATH will no longer function. I was able to retrieve the path thanks to my backup software. A word of advice for the wise - Before installing, make a backup of the PATH variable. br>br>The second issue is this: Quicken is primarily used for downloading transactions from my financial institutions. Intuit turned off the download feature for 2008 on April 27th. stating that only two versions prior to the current version are supported. Now I see why they might not be able to answer support questions - however, if you want to turn off a feature that is currently in use - After that, the user will be prompted to upgrade for $89 95 - That's on the verge of being a crime. br>br>I've been using Intuit products since Quicken's initial release. Needless to say, I will not be doing business with them in the future.

Never buy old software or programs that are out of date
3/5

This was a rip-off of the highest order. The CD is not working. I was unable to connect any of my online accounts because the program is so old that you must download a new version in order for your bank to allow access. I'm familiar with Quicken because I've used it before. Although it is very user-friendly, this CD should have been thrown away. For the defective program, I'd like a refund.

This version of Quicken makes me feel very at ease
5/5

This version of Quicken has become second nature to me. The reviews are still positive, and it appears that "a few translations lost something" since then. This is why I've decided to re-read the book. When we moved, I couldn't find my old copy to install on the new computer, so I ordered this version.

They expect you to do all the legwork in order to locate them
3/5

There are still a few bugs that haven't been addressed. They could update your 2008 with the fixes, but they want you to go online and search for the problem among the over 200 listed, then try to fix it yourself. Purchase something else if you aren't already tied into the Quicken web of products and save yourself some headaches. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT TO ANOTHER PERSON!.

To get started, it's a pain in the rear
3/5

I require experience in accounting. I run a small photography business that I use to keep track of my books. br>br>Getting started requires a significant amount of effort, and the help files are useless for figuring out how to set things up. br>br>You should be fine if you get a good accounting book. br>br>FINAL REMARKS: br>br> br>It takes some effort, but it's a viable option.

It was exactly what I needed for an older version that I was going to use at church.
