Questions & Answers

Is this compatible with Windows 8? It's now up and running on Windows 7. ?

It should work in W8 as well. It's possible that you'll have to use it in compatibility mode, but I doubt it.

Will Q. Does Windows 8 support the year 2009? Miclud?

It should work fine, and I don't believe you'll need to use compatibility mode.

Is it possible to use Quicken 2009 Deluxe with Windows 10?

I upgraded my laptop to Windows 10 and it worked, but I didn't keep it because I didn't like it, so I'm not sure how well it would have performed if I had kept it.

Is the Quicken Version 2009 any good? Do you only require a basic solution?

YES is the simple answer. It takes care of a lot of the things you'll need. I use a more recent version because it has more features.

Some features are not available in the free version but are in the paid version
3/5

From the early 1990s until about two years ago, I used Quicken exclusively until I switched to MS Money. Since that program is no longer available, I've returned to Quicken. I'm not someone who wields a great deal of power. I'm a single-user who only uses it to keep track of my account balances and track the performance of my investments. To me, one of the most important features is the ability to communicate with my banks and update balances and transaction information. The program performs a slew of other functions that I am uninterested in. My two complaints are: br>br> br>br>1) Prior to purchasing, I created a free quickenonline account to ensure that my banks were accessible via online downloads. ING Retirement Savings - The 401(k) plan at my company - Quickenonline's free version had this feature. I couldn't find the ING Retirement financial institution when I installed the Quicken Deluxe 2009 paid version. I reached out to Quicken Support - which is located in another country and takes FOREVER to reach via phone or internet chat - They also confirmed that ING Retirement is available in the free version but not in the paid version. To me, it appears to be a bait and switch. Also, I'm having trouble getting PayPal to work - Quicken, on the other hand, claims that this is a "well-documented issue. " "br>br>2) the program moves at a snail's pace. I have a brand new computer with a ton of RAM and quad-core processors that are lightning fast. There's no reason for the program to take ten seconds to load and a few seconds to respond to each command. br>br>I'm disappointed. The program does a lot of things that only a few people use, but the basic features aren't finished yet - even if it's been more than 15 years. There is no competition and likely no incentive for them to improve now that MS Money is no longer in the picture. Expect the price to rise while the quality declines.

The user interface is unattractive and cluttered
3/5

The online setup is unnecessarily difficult. Due to Microsoft's discontinuation of Money Plus and removal of online banking support, I purchased/downloaded this version of Quicken with the intention of using Quicken's "simple, efficient" conversion tool, which is available on their website. Regrettably, it did not work. My accounts, with the exception of one, all had incorrect balances and missing or duplicate transactions when they were imported. I attempted several times, as well as uninstalling and reinstalling the software. Nothing was of any assistance. In every case, the data was incorrectly imported. As a result, I can't use the software. br>br>To add salt to the wound, Intuit released Q2010, which includes built-in MS Money data conversion, shortly after purchasing Q2009! It's bad enough that I had to purchase Q2009 as a result of Microsoft's neglect of its customers. However, I now have to purchase a new version of Quicken immediately after purchasing the previous version in order for it to perform as promised in that version! I'm not the happiest puppy in the world. br>br>I'm thinking about buying a copy of Money on eBay just to get my activation extended until January 2011. Then I can worry about whether Quicken 2012 (End of the World Edition) will correctly import my Money data at that time. br>br>I'd like to slap the MS people responsible for the poor way they discontinued Money, as well as the Quicken people responsible for their horrible conversion tool and marketing thereof, with a huge dead fish right across their faces. I despise knuckleheads. EDIT: br>br> Quicken recently released an update for Q2009 that allows users to convert Money files directly into Quicken. I installed the update and used an import tool to complete the process. The accounts appeared to have been imported properly. However, it severely hampered the Bill Reminder list. Cleaning that up manually isn't too difficult. HOWEVER, I'm having a lot of trouble getting all of my accounts set up with all of my banks for direct online download. In this regard, Microsoft Money was a LOT easier, and Quicken's user interface is also fantastic. I understand Q2010 is supposed to be much better in that regard, so if you need to switch to Quicken due to Microsoft's douchebaggery, spend the extra money and try Q2010. Purchasing Q2009 to save a few dollars isn't worth the hassle.

Useless
3/5

I've been installing updates as they become available (currently at v2009 R7), and Quicken has become extremely unreliable. I tried to make amends last night. I was getting an incorrect total every time, so I deleted everything and started over. My most recent wager was $1. The total was changed by $4 when I clicked it. with regularity Quicken couldn't see $1 for some reason. 00 as $1. I re-created the transaction after deleting the previous one. It was entered. I finally closed and reopened Quicken, and the total was correct, so I moved on to entering the checks. Two entries vanished at the same time. I had 70 entries, then only 68, and the balance was incorrect. br>This software is completely unusable due to its instability.

As predicted
5/5

This was ordered to replace an older version that we had been using for a home-based business. As expected, it functions properly. Shipping was extremely quick. I wanted to update, but as another user pointed out, you can only go up for about 5 years before the data will transfer to the new program. My previous Quicken migrated seamlessly to this one. It works in the same way as the previous version, making my life easier. I'd buy Quicken products again, and I'd buy from this seller again.

Personal Finance Management Software that works
4/5

I upgraded from Quicken Starter Edition in 2006, and I'm very pleased with it. Everything works flawlessly, and Quicken makes balancing multiple credit cards and accounts a breeze. When I moved to a new computer, I used Quickbooks for a short time, but it's far too complicated for personal finance. I'll confess that I don't save financial statements to my computer. I manually fill out forms. When I attempted to download statements with Quicken 2006, I discovered that it was either too expensive or too difficult- I haven't tried it on the 2009 version yet. Quicken is, in my opinion, fantastic. Creating reports and categorizing expenses is a breeze. It's also very convenient to be able to set up recurring bills without having to manually enter them.
