There is no mat included. To line the cage, I went to my local hardware store, which sells various flooring plastic/rubber materials by the foot (off a roll). Because I have guinea pigs, I covered it in fleece material.
The grids are made of painted steel and the connectors are made of hard plastic.
Small animals, such as hamsters and guinea pigs, can use this item. I would suggest that you look at our cat playpen in our store. I hope this has been of assistance.

However, there is no bottom tray, no floor, and no roof to keep the pet secure. Honestly, this is the coolest setup I've ever seen. br>Bunny cages can cost anywhere from $200 to $1,000. 300 ! Look it up if you don't believe me. AND it's only $200. They're half the size of this at 300. You don't have to make the same set up with this one; you can customize it and make your own design. It's almost entirely do-it-yourself. This product may not be suitable for you if your pet is a master escape artist. br>HEADS UP: If your pet is a master escape artist, this product may not be suitable for you. (My bunnies, on the other hand, are not. ) They are content to remain in their confinement. ) ALSO, if your pet is not litter trained, this product may not be the best option for you (there is no drop tray or bottom to the "cage," and my bunnies, thank goodness, use their litter box). ) However, for paw comfort, I added my own sticker tiles, as well as padded garage puzzles for the bottom to protect the carpet. AWESOME pet setup for a very low price!.
One of the crossbars on one of my panels wasn't completely connected. It worked perfectly well as a bottom support. I really like how I can change the shape of this to fit my needs. To make the top, I used panels that were attached with zip ties. The top row of the top row of the piggie flips up for easy access and cleaning. Because my piggie enjoys running around her cage, I didn't want to use a panel for middle support. Instead, I found a company online that sells a support bar that you can zip tie to the side panel, which makes the cage feel more secure and prevents sagging. Instead of making supports and storage for underneath her house, I decided to make it one level. br>br>Please note that I used larger zip ties on the middle of the flip top where it flips back to allow the bars to move freely without causing the zip ties to break. The ties that come with the panels are extremely thin, and when I tried to close them, some of them broke.
It's very roomy and versatile, and I'm glad I was able to attach it to his old crate, which is an added bonus because it allows him to keep the home he's grown accustomed to. I put turf on the second level and ramp, then used extra zip ties to keep it in place, to add comfort and prevent any damage to his little feet from the iron. We put it in last night, and he's already gone through his entire new condo. The purchase has exceeded our expectations!.

Assembling it was a piece of cake. Because the pieces are standardized and easy to find in smaller quantities, customization and expansion are both simple thanks to the modular design. We're looking forward to putting in a loft and possibly expanding the base if we get more pigs!
