Questions & Answers

How will this substrate affect the growth of plants?

I am happy with how my plants are doing on my turtle There may be times when you will need to fertilize/feed them. I keep my table closed all the time for my baby tortoises to maintain humidity so the substrate does not dry out. It doesn't happen too often, though, so I just add more water.

Do bearded dragons do well with this?

If you feed them inside the enclosure and they like to dig, there is no way to keep them contained. It was my intention to see if this would work with a bearded dragon and a crested gecko, but after closer inspection I have determined that it won't work. In the event you feed it to your bearded dragon inside, some of it might get into his mouth, and due to him digging and laying eggs, it might poke him in the eyes. There are small splinters in the terrarium, making it dangerous to the plants. In the past, I have either used shredded walnuts or green carpets from repti brands for my bearded dragon. I have found this to be safer. If you have a grass bedding on top of this, it would be a good atmosphere for geckos so they could climb up the branches and keep humid. Nevertheless, my pets' safety is not at risk if pet bedding is simply used for bedding. Thanks for reading and I hope it was helpful

This substrate would be appropriate for isopods and roaches, right?

During my time as a pest control technician, we used it extensively for our Madagascar hissing cockroaches, and they are healthy and thriving.

REMEMBER TO BE AWARE OF MITE! Because it was half the price of the bag from the same company that I saw at my local reptile store, I bought this substrate
3/5

As I rummaged through it, I opened it up. In fact, I removed a tiny piece and examined it but did not see any mites until I stuck it in my large I came home two days later to find my Carpet Python home to mites. If you plan on putting this bag in an enclosure, be sure to either freeze the bag or bake it. I have never been able to get rid of such things because they are so tedious and painful!.

A very solid mix of substrate! The substrate I use is generally a cocktail I prepare myself
4/5

Most of the time, this is its foundation. It's the first time I have used just this mix for my vivarium, so keep that in mind throughout the In addition to coconut coir, horticultural charcoal, sphagnum moss, and sometimes reptile pellets, it is usually mixed with coconut coir. The fact that it retains water so well has reduced the amount of misting I have to do to keep the cage at the proper humidity level. I keep vivariums in my basement all year round, so the vivariums keep a nice, humid environment. My experiences with this substrate include keeping dart frogs, scorpions, tropical geckos, and even a few tropical arboreal tarantulas. They all thrive as long as the plants are healthy, too! Most tropical plants don't suffer from root rot when they're in this area because the soil drains well. This mix has yielded great results for me and I am very satisfied with.

Choosing the best substrate for your application
5/5

Jungle Mix has been my preferred tool for over a decade and I have never had a problem. I like the way it holds moisture well, has a nice scent, and is easy to clean. Unlike coconut fibers and Aspen, it does not leave tunnels, bare spots, or clumps at all, making it an ideal mulch for diggers and burrowers. There is no competition between Jungle Mix and Coconut Fiber as a substrate. This is what I use for snakes (Rat, Corn, and Pine snakes) and lizards (tropical skinks). In my case, I mix it with sand to accommodate my more arid lizards (Leopard gecko and Madagascar spiny tail iguana). It's a very versatile substrate by the way. This book is highly The only other solution I would use is this one. I am grateful to Zilla and I hope you never stop making this!.

It was the closest thing I could find to dirt
4/5

My favorite part of this mix is the percussion. It is the first organic soil that I have bought with no additives after searching everywhere I could. My search for any did not lead to any results. My son bought me a small bag of this product after seeing it in a pet store. As far as my Tortoises are concerned, it was the closest thing to dirt, so it would be good as their bed. Since I liked it and they liked it too, I bought the biggest bag I could find. To keep it from being too dry or dusty, I mist it after it dries out. I really like this mix, it dries out. We have had great results so far. One thing I dislike about it is getting tiny splinters in my fingers from touching it to brush it off of their basking areas. In my experience, splinters are unlikely to occur outside of the bed area, so I thought the coco chips caused them. As I mentioned before, I now use a brush to apply the mix instead of my hands, but it's still better than any other mix I have used before. Since they have thick skin, I don't believe they are bothered by it.

The soil has a good humidity level if you take care of it
5/5

The water dragon that I bought this for two months ago loves it. The humidifier in my house will turn on every 15 minutes for a few My first impression was it didn't hold humidity very Nevertheless, after about two months of use with the humidifier, the entire substrate is totally There is a lot of humidity in it. In my enclosure, I always keep the lower ambient humidity at 85 percent or higher Despite not using the humidifier, it still reached 90. In the meantime, I will turn on the humidifier again until it starts losing humidity. Atop all of this, I have a lucky bamboo that I planted in the soil. It has been alive since the beginning and has begun to grow. Also, I have another tropical plant (I don't know what kind it is but I purchased it at Petco under tropical plants) and it is still alive.

I would recommend baking the soil first to kill the mites.

This substrate would be an excellent choice for anyone who keeps tropical lizards or hides in humid environments
5/5

The good thing about this product is that it can be purchased in either a small or larger bag, so you have options. I really like this substrate since it's great for humid hides and great to use for tropical lizards that require lots of humidity if anyone is looking for a substrate that keeps humidity at a high level. Despite being a relatively new product, I was very satisfied with this product, even though it still had a really good amount of humidity inside.
