In the end, this was a great deal for me, as I had purchased it as a soil amendment for my plants. Is this really a $6 deal for 24 dry quarts? When orchid bark is usually purchased for $5 for 8 dry quarts? I'd like to join! My package arrived, and it is definitely NOT 24 dry quarts as I thought. There might be a little more than 8 dry quarts in this box. In order to demonstrate size comparison, I have uploaded a photo of my potting soil, which is actually 8 dry quarts.
He died of a heart attack.
When I first saw it, it impressed me. The chunks were of a good size for what I needed them for, and the price was great. My hoya plants have been swarming with thousands of mites for the past week after I mixed this stuff into the soil mix and replanted! The worms crawled on all my plants and were in the soil. My sadness cannot even begin to express how I felt, anyone who is a serious hoya collector will understand as they know how much some of these plants cost. I also cannot imagine that mites are good for reptiles so I would not recommend using this stuff in either it or plants. I recommend soaking the bark in water, then baking it at 225 degrees for a few minutes, and I highly recommend these measures if you plan to purchase this product regardless due to the low price. It is recommended that you soak it in 250 for at least 45 minutes before use.
It helps with my ball python's shedding quite a bit so I am very happy with it.
The substrates that end up in the water end up creating a lot of residue in it. There are nice sized pieces of bark here, up to half an The insect problems I have seen reported with other brands have not occurred to me. At various times of the year, I also layer peat moss on top after soaking the top with water to keep humidity up. My name has also been changed recently The water bowl/swimming pool should be landscaped with flat rocks around the water to prevent mess and keep the substrate farther away from the water.
The pro's are Please note that Humidity can be effectively absorbed (50%)* - Could help to mask the smell a bit*
Cons Please note that A HIGH humidity environment is conducive to the growth of molds The water cannot be boiled The only way to maintain sanitation is to bake A substance that cannot be fed to wood Species that eat animal matter - Cleaning bugs are likely to be killed
Standing water sources will be dirty when this item is used
Best Please note that When you want your tanks to be dryer or to lower the humidity in them-- Cages (even mice, rats, hamsters, etc. ) can be treated with this additive to keep the smell at bay.
This is what we use to keep snakes alive. It is really cool how the pieces have different textures. In order to absorb messes under the substrate, we add a little bit. It does not bleed colors, so it is a great looking bark. Most of us spray a few times a day, and so far none of it has molded. The application has been in use for over a year now.
I needed mulch for a tree I just bought and didn't need a huge bag of mulch. Since I've had reptiles in the past (and worked with them, and currently live with them) and know Fluker's is an excellent brand, I decided to buy it. It would arrive in time for planting, and was exactly right for my 5 foot The system has been working well! However, if you want to use it as a reptile bedding, then I recommend it. Having used it in the past, I found its products to be reliable.
