I have a tortoise, and I use this in conjunction with a second heat lamp to keep the cool side of his enclosure under control. The temperature remains between 80 and 90 degrees.
With the wattage and amperage it claims to be capable of, it should be able to power two lamps with ease. Simply run a strip from the plug, and the thermostat will control only two lamps. IF IT CAN HANDLE WHAT THEY SAY IT CAN HANDLE, THAT IS. A 100-watt bulb should draw only about a half-amp.
I have an electronics degree (but it's old and unused), and I believe what you're hearing is an electrical relay turning on and off. The only way to put an end to it is to turn off the thermostat. You could either move the thermostat or cover it, put it in a drawer, and make sure it doesn't get too hot.

These were purchased in threes. After two months of use, everything is still working perfectly, with no issues, and it effectively controls the temperature of our heat tape. If you're curious, there's a 2 degree on/off delay. Ours is set to 92, so it starts at that time. The countdown begins again at 1 and continues until the countdown reaches 89. For those who couldn't find the spec, this is just an FYI. When the temperature is 2 degrees below the set temperature, the device will turn on. If that was the spec you were looking for, give me a like so I know I helped someonebr>br>5/20/19 **EDIT** 9 months of use on all three and they're still working great (purchase date was 8/19/18). I noticed that some people found my review helpful, so I wanted to let you know that it's still working perfectly. br>br>2/12/20 **EDIT** After 18 months of use, all three are still in excellent condition. br>br>7/8/20 **EDIT** After nearly two years of use, it's still going strong. In fact, we just purchased another one a month ago. Just a quick update because this review is still being rated as helpful.
This product has been in my possession for a week, and I'm using it on my large snake. It will not heat to the desired temperature and will continue to display the error code. This is extremely aggravating because my animals rely on that heat, and if it cannot maintain it, my snakes will perish. It's extremely aggravating. br>br>Creative+ paraphrase: br>I give this 5 stars due to the company's excellent customer service. I received an email from the company within a few hours of writing my review, which was courteous. They took my complaint seriously and delivered my replacement product to my door within three days. I am very pleased with the product because it works so well. This is a product that I would strongly recommend to anyone. Not only for the quality of the product, but also for the outstanding customer service.
*UPDATE
I gave this a one-star rating when I first bought it. The company, on the other hand, excelled in customer service, going above and beyond to first repair my unit with troubleshooting instructions, then replace the entire unit after hearing about my problems. We will definitely buy from here again now that their products 100% are guaranteed. br>br>Did not come with any sort of troubleshooting guide; we've had this thermostat for three months and it's only recently begun to display an error message. I'm at a loss as to how to resolve the issue.
They're easy to program and set up, which I appreciate. br>br>To ensure that my enclosures are perfect for each snake, I use digital thermostats and a temperature gun. I set the thermostat to either my target temperature or a little higher depending on where they are in the room. The room remains fairly warm, which is ideal for the two snakes I use it with.
br>I used it with a heat mat, and there are so many flaws in it that I can't even begin to describe them. br>However, the most crucial aspect is this: My snake's temperature was set to 88°F last night. The temperature was set to 90 degrees. Okay, I suppose that's okay. Unless I check with my temperature gun and see that the heat mat has reached 110 DEGREES! br>Thank goodness my snake was smart enough to move to the cooler side of the tank! That could have resulted in serious consequences for him! br>Is it possible that it's my fault and that, because it's a glass enclosure, I should set it reallyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy br>I tried setting it to 85 just now. The temperature fell to 83 degrees Fahrenheit. 5 isn't quite warm enough for me. It, on the other hand, did not appear to be getting any warmer. So I set it to 86, and it SKYROCKETS up to 88. I had to unplug it because the numbers were shooting up at the speed of light and didn't stop! WTH? br>This thermostat is extremely dangerous, and I'll be replacing it as soon as I receive my herpstat. br>Because my snake's life is dependent on maintaining the proper temperature, I'm not sure why I decided to entrust it to a $19 device. It just proves that you get what you pay for!.
If the temperature reaches a certain level, the thermostat is supposed to shut off. The temperature in my house is set to 84 degrees. However, the temperature on the digital readout reached 86 degrees in the first two days, and the unit did not turn off. However, because the unit does read the temperature and it hasn't gotten too hot (my snake lives in temperatures between 75 and 85 degrees), I've decided to keep it. br>br>UPDATE: br>br> After I posted this review, the seller sent me what looked like a "reconditioned unit. " I put the device to the test and found that it performs as expected: When the temperature reached the set point, the unit turned off. So I've changed my rating to three stars as a result of this.
This was bought to control the temperature of the thermal lamp in my snake's terrarium. So far, everything has gone well! Between 85 and 87 degrees, it turns off and on to create the ideal basking spot. Splendid.
These are fantastic controllers! I have a leopard gecko, and I just placed my first order for her heat mat's first temperature controller. I got her in the summer, so I didn't have to worry about her tank's temperature being too hot. br>I was hesitant to plug in her heat light for fear of her overheating or causing a fire, so she began to come out of her warm hide less frequently, and her appetite dwindled. I ordered a second heat controller for her heat light as soon as I realized what had happened. Her appetite has returned to normal, and she is much happier. br>Excellent product; I considered purchasing one from our local vivarium, but it was $60, so I ordered mine from here for less than $20! br>In addition, when I lose power due to a blackout, the temperature controls return to the previous setting, which is great because my gecko hasn't overheated. Very simple to use! br>br> br>I had trouble connecting my light to the controller's outlet; I could only do so when the controller was unplugged from the wall. So, if you're having trouble getting it to work, try plugging it into the controller first before plugging it into the outlet! br>br>Heat your reptiles with a temperature controller, not just a heater! They are in grave danger! This is a cost-effective option! br>br>I would recommend it because it is simple to set up and provides peace of mind!.
