I gave the carpet to my daughter for her barbies, and I used the slate to split it in half, then lightly sand and glue for my gecko's hideout. To make sure the slate would not sway, I wrapped some twine around some pvc pieces and hot glued them to the bottom.

It is incredibly well made and will last for years. As with other trays we have used, this one is sturdy (with a nice weight and not bent over time). As if a piece of cut stone were being held in your hand. My recommendation is to use.
