Although there are thorns on the plant, they are soft.
I think it'll be fine, and I'm guessing you'll put a few other items around/next to it as well. I have one in an eleven-inch-diameter outdoor pot and another in a 19-inch-diameter outdoor pot, both of which I adore. diameter. It's fantastic, and it appears to be very real.

Following the acquisition of a number of Exo- For my daughter's corn snake, I was looking for a low, broad plant to help balance the tank, so I went with terra vines and generic upright plants. Thankfully, I came across this star cactus, which is a big hit! When it arrived, Lyra was blue, and I discovered her shed in and behind this particular plant a few days later. Given Lyra's size (she's over four feet tall), This plant must be tough, as it is 5 feet long and thicker than the average corn. I gave it the tug test before putting it in the enclosure because of some of the negative reviews, and it is definitely well made. I'd buy it again if I had the opportunity. Please note that the star cactus is shown in a 36" x 18" x 18" enclosure in the attached photos to help visualize size.
Our Leopard Gecko thinks it's a lot of fun. He can climb up on the leaves because they are sturdy. The disadvantage is that if you grab the top section of the leaves to pull it out of the tank, it will easily separate from the bottom. Overall, I'm happy with how it turned out. The rock is nice and heavy, so it doesn't move around.
It's a big hit with Bruce the turtle. With his nose submerged, he squirts it around. He seems to prefer it on its side, which irritates me greatly because I'm a little OCD about these things. Regardless, it gets 5 stars from me because my turtle enjoys it. He wouldn't be able to knock it over if it had a little suction cup on the bottom, but then it would only be 4 stars, because he wouldn't like it as much. This is something we've been debating for far too long. br>br>I have several of these Exo Terra plants, and they all appear to be well-made. Some of the less expensive ones (not exo terra) have weird excess plastic on the leaf edges, which is annoying and makes you feel like you should trim it a little. The animals are unconcerned, but it is a matter of appearance. Regardless, the Exo Terra has very little excess plastic and does not require any trimming. Bruce adores the plants, which don't cost much.
It provides cover for it to hide behind and isn't well shaped for climbing on top of. When washing, be careful; the top section piece on mine was loose, so I simply pressed it back in place before putting it in the enclosure. My gecko will not be at the very top, so it will not be a major issue for me.
It's a little bigger than I expected, but it still looks great in the tank, and my baby beard enjoys sitting on it now and then. I had to remove some extra plastic "leaf" bits from the manufacturing process, but it appears to be sturdy and well-made overall. I would strongly suggest it.
This is my leopard gecko's favorite "bush" in his tank to hide under! It's large enough for him to feel safe and secure. For a tropical or desert look, this is ideal. Plant with a large base and a strong root system.
I realize it was only $5, but I had hoped for a little more from exo Terra. The top of the bottle popped off as I was rinsing it. I was hoping it would turn back on, but it didn't. It has a plastic-like appearance, but it would have fit in the tank just fine. The foundation appeared to be quite sturdy.
It's the third time I've done it. It's the perfect size for a medium-sized pot. Because I live in the desert, they rot after three years in the direct sunlight.
