There are 1 5/8 inches in the shank It measures approximately 1 7/8 inches in length.

What kind of steel are these? Would they be able to be welded? Is that alright?

Yes, they can be welded and are made from mild steel. I welded them with MIG several times and made metal objects with them

Soldering is it something you can do?

The answer is yes Soldering them with paste flux and 60/40 tin solder takes a 60 watt iron. Silver solder that contains 5% will also work at higher temperatures. You'll get a strong fuse if you use plenty of flux. For welding, you can only use slick wire unless they are too thin.

Can you tell me how long these nails are? Does the description give the wrong impression?

The length of the item is about two inches, the box is about four inches long, and they are a standard 5 size, and yes, they are confusing, they should put the length on the item

While I admit that I do not use them for the intended purpose, the quality is reasonable

However,I found that the very style and look of these nails made me love them since I had intended to use them for hanging furniture on walls. Their quality is good too, but I wish I had a horse to try them on so I could give you a detailed review of their function. The nail is really good quality and I would definitely buy them again, but I may also check.
