I'd size down because they're meant to support, and it's preferable to have them snug rather than sloppy.
We'd be delighted to, but our previous international shipping attempts have been marred by customs fees and delays. We haven't shipped to Australia before, but we'll look into it and get back to you as soon as possible.
The following sizing chart is applicable to all Iconoclast Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Boots, according to the Iconoclast website:br> A soft tape measure is the best option. If you don't have a soft tape measure, wrap a piece of string around your fetlock, mark where the end meets the rest of the string, and lay it flat next to a tape measure or ruler to get your measurement. br>br>Measure both the FRONT and the BACK. Back fetlocks, because they are frequently of varying sizes. Customers frequently order front-leg boots in one size and hind-leg boots in a different size. I made my decision based primarily on the reviews and was successful. Great support, and the velcro is extremely sticky, so it's probably worth the extra money. For my 15-year-old son, I went with a medium. If that's of any use, 1hr QH.
Both sides of the fetlock were wrapped in the boots, which I liked. Because the reviews were positive, I decided to try a new brand, and I'm glad I did! These boots have a slightly thinner neoprene than the Professional's Choice, and the gussets in the fetlock area are better placed, allowing for a closer, more secure fit on my Arab that does not slip or let dirt in. Also, the Velcro isn't a joke. I literally tore my knuckles open trying to unvelcro them for the first time, which was not so much fun at the time, but it does mean they should last a long time.
I bought these for my horse, who has a front left suspensory tear and is currently being rehabbed. They're about the same price as the professionals' choice boots, but they give the suspensory that extra support, which was crucial for me. Nothing else like it exists right now (at least not that I could find after a thorough search)! My fine-boned 16-hand TB was perfectly suited to the large size. br>br>Like any boot, it's difficult to gauge how much support it provides, particularly for a horse in rehab who is already a little tender. But I will say that I am able to get a good trot with my gelding under saddle, and I am less concerned when they are on. br>br>The Velcro is SUPER strong, as stated in the other reviews. My hands were in excruciating pain for the first week or so. However, after three months of daily use, I'm glad they're sturdy because they've held up well even when dirty! br>br>The only criticism I have of these boots is that the Velcro on the underside of the first suspensory wrap does not sit on the boot and can rub the back of your horse's pattern even when it is properly fastened. To prevent further rubbing, I'll cover it with tape or something similar. Because the Velcro straps are so strong, I don't think there's any need for the extra Velcro.
My mare has arthritis, so we try to wear these for any exercise, even just walking in the arena. They take a little more effort to get on and off, but they provide the best support. My issue is that she has a swollen hind that is about an inch larger than the other. I'll need to find an XXL for her, and I haven't found any on Amazon, which is my preferred shopping site. She fits perfectly in the XL front boots.
For barrel racing, I adore iconoclast boots. The help has been fantastic. The straps are fastened in a way that I like. It's simple to take apart and put back together. These were also a fantastic deal when compared to other online retailers, and they came with free shipping.
I was drawn to the videos posted by Iconoclast of horses wearing this support boot, so I purchased one for my mare's injured tendon. She was quite lame but restless, and she continued to limp around in her stall. She was able to walk without limping when we put the boot on her. As she continued to rehab, we let her out in a small lot where she could graze, lay down, and get up. It has aided her in taking care of herself, as well as us. I'll eventually try riding her again while she's wearing the boot the way it's supposed to be worn.
This pair of boots appears to be of assistance. The Velcro is tough at first, but it gets easier as I use it. They are far superior to the other sport boots I was wearing. I'd buy them again without a doubt.
