Questions & Answers

Could a magnet one placed on the side be more accurate than a standing version located in the center of the tank?

I think it's okay to place it on the opposite side of your heater, depending on how close to it you place it

What about outside the water? Would this thermometer still be useful?

In theory, I could see this working for air temperatures as well I see no reason why it wouldn't

In the event I want the device to float, can the fins be removed?

Attaching the glass tube to the weighted base is done with glue.

Can this thermometer be used in the presence of alcohol or mercury?

There is no way to know for certain what is inside the thermometer. There was one thermometer inside the tank that broke and I didn't realize it for several hours until it is finally noticed. It did not harm the fish in any way. The reason for your question is probably that you are afraid your fish will be injured, so I hope this explains it all for you.

You've done an amazing job! As always, I purchased this merchandise with my own money and hard-earned cash MONEY EARNED AT CURRENT RATE OF GROWTH
5/5

The purchase was not made by me, and I have no connection whatsoever with anyone who may have earned even a single penny through it. I just thought I'd mention it. Since I have kept aquariums for about 45 years, I'm no novice. It is the best magnet thermometer on the market under the right circumstances. This idea will leave you wondering why it wasn't thought of earlier. It can be put anywhere in the tank you wish and it can be relocated at will at will, even from one tank to another if you wish. Whenever you look at it, you will see it right where you last put it. It is easily readable as well. The system is superior in this regard to the previous one The best combination of popularity, cheapness, convenience, and color You can also change them with ones that stick on the outside of the tank like a piece of tape (they are probably more accurate). In addition, the floating ones that I can read but can never find or suction cup ones that 'stick' to the wall are less convenient. The vast majority of aquarium "suction cup" things are made of plastic. Always stay on the edge of the tank and don't fall to the bottom. There is something so appealing about this thermometer that I prefer it over fancy digital electronic ones that rely on an ugly wiring probe. Isn't it already difficult to keep untangled all the wires and hoses? Choosing the right time for an escalation might only be possible in certain situations. A 20 gallon long aquarium that I use for breeding and fostering is the perfect size for my Smarttemp Thermometer. Inexpensive magnets will be less effective when the tank's glass is thick and the fish are large and rambunctious, so I guess that thick glass and large fish will make it more difficult to keep the thermometer example, it might not stay in place as nicely on a 200 gallon tank (much thicker glass), filled with, say, car batteries. Bala Sharks range in size from six inches to eight inches and are known to be unruly. However, don't take my word for it, folks with medium-sized jobs A small tank or less should be used - Besides being attractive to fish of all sizes, it is also beneficial to calm fish.

There was a real risk of Oscar's death
3/5

As I put the pellets into my Oscar's aquarium this morning, I wondered why one end of the aquarium was under the heater while the other was at the bottom. Once I put in the pellets, he would not eat until after a few minutes, so I went to get the food out and my hand went in the water, and then I realized the water was freezing. It was not until I noticed that the water has actually been cold that I based my decision on the reading on the thermometer, which has always been between 70 and 80 ever since I purchased it. This thermometer is not recommended and I am requesting a refund.

There is no way to work them
3/5

The money was a complete waste. There are two of these that I bought. The reading on both cards when I received them was 80. They have both been in my possession for two weeks now, and the temperature on either has never changed. By putting them in the refrigerator for a few minutes, I was able to test them. After they lost to 76, they had a hard time getting back up. My scores went back to 80 immediately after removing them.

This statement is not accurate
3/5

It would appear that these are not calibrated to any accuracy and can not be trusted to determine the temperature of an aquarium. Putting a magnet on the outside of the thermometer to keep it in place is a good idea but ultimately fails when the water temperature is too high. This thermometer is a total waste of money and could result in fish loss, which could cost you a lot of money.

A great little aquarium thermometer at an affordable price
4/5

I like this little thermometer a lot. In addition to its size and width, it is roughly six inches long and an inch wide. It has contrasting black numbers and temperatures that make it easy to read. A magnet makes it easy to move around the aquarium glass when cleaning it, which is a great feature. The two pieces also maintain enough contact for the connection not to become lost when the two pieces are moved. Currently, I have it on a 60 gallon with another thermometer and it has the exact same temperature as the first one. I liked the first one so much that I ordered three more to go in other aquariums after receiving the first. However, as you can see from the second photo, one of the three was broken when it arrived. note that this does not appear to have anything to do with product quality. ).

The actual temperature is 2 degrees below the setpoint
3/5

I have found out after several months of use that this thermometer is off by at least 2 degrees F, which is important because it is placed A recent test of accuracy was performed on it in a cup of crushed ice and water, and the reading was 41/42 degrees, the first thing the test showed was In a subsequent test, I compared it with two other thermometers (analog and digital) that calibrated perfectly using the ice water method and they both expressed a reading of 2-degrees. There is a 3 degree difference between the JW Thermometer and the temperature outside. I am very disappointed to see this as this thermometer works so well with the magnetic securing system and it has a large font and contrasting colors that make it one of the easiest to read analog thermometers. It looks like this is an issue with my unit, or they are working on fixing it. Other than the accuracy issues, it was an excellent.

I have tried all sorts of cheap thermometers but this is the best one
5/5

In this review, I will be discussing the thermometer with the magnet that hangs outside the tank so that it can be used. There is a problem with suction cups. You have probably noticed that suction cups fail eventually if you have kept aquariums for some period of time. do not want to have to mess with thermometers, and I certainly don't want to have to replace suction cups every few Since the design uses no magnets, I don't see that it is going to fail ever, so it should stay in its new position as long as it does when it is It seems to me that these thermometers are accurate after I checked them against some others that I already have in my tanks. I am probably going to wind up using these in all of my aquariums for the price of these.

Electronic digital is not used any longer, so this is an excellent solution
5/5

The purpose of my visit here is to positively review this product. The probe on my electronic digital thermometer died. I actually did a very generic Google search for the little guy and found it. This book caught my attention after reading the reviews, almost passing it up, but my good sense prevailed and I bought A lot of I like it, it's so simple, the magnet concept is perfect, it's accurate enough and pretty In a 38 gallon bow front tank, I kept my Gourami in with active rainbows, Congo tetras, and Congo frogfish. The 1 star reviews I read most often do not seem to be about the product itself. Instead they complain about the packaging or shipping, saying that the product arrived damaged. Ignore that Harry Deal, take care of it and move on it has nothing to do with the overall quality.
