A saltwater swimming pool's salt concentration is typically around 5,000 parts per million (ppm). This refractometer can obviously be used to measure the salt in your pool, but the numbers are too small to be accurate. I recommend using an EC meter if you need a measurement that is accurate enough.

Remember that these types of units do not stay in calibration or vary with temperature (even if they say temperature calibrated), so you'll need to use calibration liquid every time you check your water because there are fluctuations. I've tried a few different refractometers now, and they're all pretty much the same.
I bought this one to compare it to my old one, and it was spot on at 1. The new Aquatic Experts fluid is used in 026. At 1 p. m. , my old refractor checked in. 027, I'm glad I bought this one because it was exactly what I was looking for. My corals are going to be a whole lot happier now.
It gives you a true reading of your salt after you calibrate it with fresh tap or bottle water, clean it off, and a few drops of your saltwater I love it can't go wrong it's awesome.
I had the large plastic needle that moves according to my salinity level when I dipped in water. It didn't feel right to me, and my LFS confirmed my suspicions. These were in the $90 range when I went to see them. This one was a lot less expensive. They were identical to what they sold in the store. It's fantastic, It's packaged in a box for safekeeping. It's simple to operate, maintain, and read. I couldn't be more pleased.
It's fantastic because it's so precise. It's also very simple to use and maintain. The numbers, however, are so small that they can be difficult to read at times.

I have no doubt that this works perfectly, but I made the mistake of thinking that it would also work for pool salt testing.
