Questions & Answers
Not in the least. I've never had to calibrate mine, and it consistently gives me accurate readings.
Using Techniques:
1. Adjustment: just 2- Using a mini screwdriver, calibrate with 3 drops of distilled or fresh water. To make sure the blue line is at zero, look through the eyepiece.
2. Place a 2-inch piece of tape over the calibration results. 3 drops of test sample on the main prism that has been cleanedbr>3. Close the daylight plate and place it in front of a light source to get a reading.
4. After each use, wipe the prism and storage with the cleaning cloth.
This salinity refractometer is suitable for salt water testing in aquariums, sea fish tanks, and marine monitoring, among other applications. It's fairly accurate and ideal as a hydrometer replacement.
You could certainly do it. You take a drop of water from whatever sample you're working with and place it on the viewing window. Water that has been filtered has a pH of zero. The temperature in my fish tank is one.

Originally purchased a hydrometer, the type that you dip into the salt water tankbr>Did some research and found that people claim these are more accuratebr>So here's the verdict. They appear to be correct in terms of accuracybr>However, my dip hydrometer is one or two marks offbr>Anyway, now that I have both, I can double test the aquarium water with eachbr>I don't have any corals yet, so as long as it's above the true mark and not over the higher reading, I'm happy and the fish will be fine toobr>I've been doing this for a long time and don't stress about it too much u.
Fluid with the number 026. It is critical to obtain some specialized aquarium calibration fluid for the following reasons: 1. 026 as a starting point, and work your way up from there. Otherwise, especially when adding live stock, the device can easily become faulty and cause harm. Animals in your tank can adjust to higher or lower salinity levels over time, but if you think you're at 1, you're wrong. If the tank isn't clean, new animals will suffer from shock. If you test the bagged water for new animals and allow them to acclimate, you'll be able to determine the deviation, but calibration of the refracto is required for routine maintenance.
It's significantly lighter than my previous refractometer (a Sybon model). I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing, but it's certainly unique. I guess it FEELS less expensive than my previous one, but I'm not sure if that means anything or if it's just a difference in materials used, so I'm not deducting a star for it.
reads with precision It is simple to calibrate. It also comes with a nice protective case to keep it safe when not in use, as well as a small screwdriver for calibration and a dropper for your samples. The only thing I have to say is that it's a little too dark. To see it clearly, I have to hold the glass close to a light source, but if you stand near an open window during the day, you should be fine. At night, the ambient room light is insufficient, resulting in dark images. Aside from that, everything is fine.
I needed a screwdriver to help calibrate the refractometer, which isn't a big deal, but the product must have been damaged in transit because I couldn't get a clear reading of the specific gravity. I returned the refractometer, and the replacement they sent worked perfectly and included a mini-computer. and a screwdriver It appears to be in good working order, but it would have been nice if the first refractometer they sent had been functional.
This was purchased in order to provide a more precise reading than the hydrometer. When I compared it to the reading my water had at my local pet store, it was spot on.
It's quite effective. The only issue I have is that it's a little difficult to adjust my reading glasses to distinguish the blue from the white in the viewing window with my reading glasses on. However, with a little perseverance, I was able to decipher it. My salinity was tested, and the results were spot on.
The product does exactly what it says it will do. With the ability to calibrate and focus, the readout is crystal clear. Excellent value for money, and the case is also very nice. This is how I determine the specific gravity of my marine aquarium.
