Questions & Answers

Would you be happy with just the network and no connections? Thanks. ?

No, they keep it out of the water and in place.

Is the frame different from typical aluminum screen framing?

The frame is the same on both sides. The connectors are different because the corners are designed to cut out for cords, and there are some keepers that keep the screen on the tank's lip. It's a fantastic tool that's simple to use.

Poor quality Because this kit is designed to fit Red Sea tanks of all sizes, there will be a lot of cutting and fitting involved
3/5

I have a fully equipped automotive shop, so I have all of the necessary tools, but cutting aluminum pieces leaves bare edges that must be cleaned up, and they will never look as neat as if they came as a kit from the factory. Next, because the netting is thin and fragile, some strands will be broken simply by pressing/rolling the rubber strip into the track, which leads to the next issue. These covers require a lot of right angles over short distances on a small tank. Because the roller won't reach all of the resulting corners, you'll need to use other tools to secure the strip there. Even when the strip is snapped into place, there are areas where it is prone to gradually releasing. I'm a fairly fit guy who weighs well over 200 pounds, so I put as much weight as I could on the roller as I moved back and forth over stubborn sections, and a few just wouldn't hold. I finally used an epoxy adhesive to tack the loose spots in place, which should keep everything in place. This simple exercise took me over 90 minutes, mostly because I was trying to secure the strip completely. It's finished now, and it appears to be fine to those without a critical eye, but I would never buy this product again, and I strongly advise others not to do so. If you spent a lot of money on your tank and the animals in it, invest in a high-quality cover; it may take a few months, but you won't waste an hour or three of your time getting frustrated, and you won't end up with something that looks shoddy and home-made. made.

A table saw is required for this project
3/5

Cutting through pieces of aluminum brackets is required for this project, and no, a hacksaw will not suffice. To make the cuts, you'll need a table saw; mine turned out uneven and shabby. If you can make precise cuts, I'm sure this is a nice cover; if not, look for something else.

In comparison to others, this is a very simple task
5/5

I tried a couple of other DIY lid kits and found them to be quite "clunky. " After you've cut and measured your required lengths, putting the lid and mesh together is a breeze. Unlike other kits, this one includes all of the necessary tools! VERY IMPORTANT because if you don't have the right tools, you'll have to take more trips and spend more money before you can finish!.

That's not very good
3/5

That's not very good! It's easy for me to put together, but it's a pain! When I called Red Sea for warranty, they wanted me to spend an additional $30 and they didn't warranty the part! This is a product that I do not recommend.

Unless you have some serious power tools, this will not fit in the nano
3/5

It claims to fit a Nano, but cutting these metal bars will require a powerful saw. I should've heeded the advice of the critics.

This is fantastic, but it is not inexpensive
5/5

It's a fantastic product, but it's a little on the pricey side for what it is.

It's very simple
5/5

It's fantastic and a lot simpler to put together than I anticipated. To assist you, get a saw with a miter box.

DIY kit that is simple to use and clean
5/5

TLDR: Read the instructions carefully, take your time, make an effort, and use the proper tools. br>br>Don't bother if you're not a do-it-yourselfer. All of the negative reviews appear to be written by people who don't put forth any effort or have a basic understanding of the tools at their disposal. They're made for RedSea aquariums, but they'll fit any other brand, with the exception of curved aquariums. br>br>This kit comes out looking very neat and professional. A fine metal blade hack saw, a miter box for your saw, clamps, sandpaper, and a new razor blade are all required. Everything else you'll need is included in the kit. If your frame pieces are going to be the same length, cut them two at a time and clamp them together while cutting. For clean, straight cuts, use the miter box, and sand the cut ends on a flat surface with the sandpaper. br>br>When it comes to attaching the net with the roller, your technique is far more important than how hard you push. Push the center of the rubber tubing while avoiding the net; if you push down on the net strings, they will snap. Don't try to roll one long piece around all four edges; instead, cut it at each corner and keep an eye on how your net is aligned. br>br>It should turn out beautifully if you take your time and put in the effort. This product has exceeded my expectations.
