My motivation for purchasing this item is likely to be quite different from that of the majority of customers. My wife has a lower tolerance for the taste of salt than the majority of people. As a result, when I make kimchi, pickles, sauerkraut, and other fermented foods, I must be careful to keep salt levels as low as possible while still remaining within safe limits. I've been using weight measurements up until now, but they've been hit or miss. When kraut and kimchi didn't have enough salt for fermentation, I had to throw them out! Now I can accurately measure salinity to ensure perfectly fermented foods and hopefully no more wasted food, prep, or fermentation time!br>As soon as this arrived, I double-checked the accuracy and it was spot on! It's simple to calibrate and use this refractometer. It detected differences in fresh water salinity between R/O, softened tap, and two freshwater aquariums (38 gallon and 55 gallon tanks that have slowly recovered from the human folly of using softened water for live plants and fish). Readings that are both consistent and accurate.
This tool comes highly recommended from me! Excellent tool for a marine aquarium hobbyist, with clear instructions on how to use it and a box that I really like. It's a long-lasting product that's also extremely accurate, thanks to the calibration I did with another device that my maintenance man uses. With my vision issues, using the focus adjustment to bring the eyepiece into clear focus to read the Specific Gravity of the Saltwater was a breeze.
This is a fantastic product that does exactly what it says it will. The item was delayed and possibly lost due to no fault of the seller, who offered a prompt refund. I accepted the refund and went to Petco to purchase one that was more expensive but of lower quality. When this item arrived after a few weeks, I was disappointed. I returned the Petco one because it was no match for this. Fantastic seller with a fantastic product.
