Mine did the same thing, and I tried to scrub them off, but they were BABIES, according to my sister, who is an expert on plants. The ones I didn't scrub turned into new java fern plants, to my delight! Allow them to grow for a few weeks (leaves and roots will appear), then gently pull them off and plant them. Congrats!
It is not necessary for you to plant it. It's as simple as rinsing it and immersing it in water. Allow it to float away on its own.
Because these plants are submerged in water, they do not pose a serious threat. If algae is a problem for you, the sun is almost certainly your adversary. Floating plants, such as Java moss, are a good option. However, if it's an outdoor fountain, I'm not sure it'll completely solve the issue.
Plants do not like koi. I recommend switching to silk artificial plants if you want your investment to be worthwhile. They have a natural appearance and can help koi by increasing bio load. It should be fine as long as you don't mind the plant being destroyed.

Is this for real? I chose the tiniest of the plants. It's nothing like the pictures suggest. I would not have squandered my money if I had known that would occur. It's not worth it in the least.
My first impression was that it would be a little larger. I definitely came in under the four-pound mark. Only one leaf comes close to making the cut at six inches. By the fullness of the one shown in the hand on the listing, this is definitely not what I had in mind. For the price, I could have gotten a better deal at Petco with shipping.
I just got my plant, and it's anywhere from 4-foot tall to 6-foot tall. 6 in; It is, however, very sparse, and two of the leaves aren't particularly attractive. The root had also been separated, and the plant had been divided into two sections - There aren't many of them. It was not at all what I had anticipated based on the vivid photo. And it wasn't worth the money or the time it took to get the item. This item is available at both Petsmart and Petco. First, make an attempt there.
The plant arrived healthy and green, and it remained strong as I allowed it to acclimate (and checked for snails and other pests). Despite the fact that this type of plant is known to be unpalatable to turtles, my Red-eared slider was able to eat it. The plant was devoured by the eared Slider the first night it was placed in his tank. So. yeah. Be aware that if you get this plant because it should be safe for and left alone by your turtle, your turtle may disagree; however, the plant itself was fantastic and looked great and healthy, so it was probably a good value.
I adore the way this plant looks in my aquarium. It arrived in excellent condition, free of pests, and with baby ferns growing on the leaves, indicating that it was grown in a safe environment. I hung it from some cholla wood in the back of my tank, and the fish seem to enjoy it. I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out. I'll keep you informed as things progress.
I was surprised to receive the java fern so quickly, given that I live on the east coast and it came from California. It'll be over in less than a week! When I opened the box, I found my java fern to be nicely packaged and much larger than what had been advertised- claiming that the plant was four years old This was a 9-inch increase over the average of 6 inches sent. With a bunch of leaves, it's 10 inches tall and looks very healthy. Because I have a community tank and a very hungry Betta, I purchased this in the hopes of providing more coverage for new baby guppies. This plant/seller comes highly recommended from me.
My betta appears to be in good health and color, so I planted it with him. However, he now appears to be green; I'm not sure if this is due to the plant or a fungus. It would be fantastic if someone could let me know. Plant was difficult to keep at the bottom of the fish tank, at least for me, so I removed it. So, while it isn't for me or my betta, I'm sure it will work for others.
So far, the plant has gotten off to a good start and is doing well. The main reason I didn't give it five stars is that every other plant I've purchased has been packaged with some sort of heat retention or protection. This was simply in a sealed plastic bag in a box; granted, I ordered in the dead of winter, but I was concerned that the plant might have froze and been damaged. On top of that, Amazon's tracking was off by three days; yes, I got it early, but it could have been sitting outside in the cold for a long time.
