Light is not harsh, just soft
There must be an outlet connected to it. There are black wires in the cable. On my black background, I have a small logo. You can really see the light through it, because it hides the wires.
The light is connected by a wire. The plug is outside the tank and you connect it to it. Having the cord coming from the outside annoyed me, so I pulled mine out.
Getting it was very difficult for me as well, but I managed to sink it in the end, so I think a little bit of work will be enough

Due to the crystal's thin appearance, it is made of very thin plastic and the light's plug cannot provide a watertight seal, so water and debris can get inside.
