There is no indication of the size of the dog. This is a very durable stake, but I can no doubt see where a large dog could pull it out of the ground if they tug or harass it constantly The ground needs to be soft, especially if it is wet. The reason I bought this tie-out is that my Yorkie enjoys being outside in my yard.
