My husband and I, as well as our two large dogs, were attacked by two dogs who broke through a fence today. I emptied my mace and they didn't stop right away, but be careful, I got my dog a little and it was in the air, so I coughed for over an hour and still don't feel great. I'm bruised from being knocked down, but it didn't deter them, even when they were in my face and I was spraying them, but they did flee after my dog came to our rescue. I honestly couldn't tell if it was my pepper spray, my dog guarding us, or my husband kicking. They came to a halt because of the dogs.

Only to discover that it had been giving me a FALSE sense of security the entire time! My dogs- 70 pound Great Pyrenees mix and 70 pound yellow lab mix I sprayed the ENTIRE contents on both of their faces after they got into a fight last night, and it had ZERO effect. It didn't seem to bother them in the least; instead, it turned everything orange and made me the only one who couldn't breathe. The dogs fought and drew blood, and this product had no effect on the situation. I guess the next step will be to try bear spray.
It was a situation in which the owner of the attacking dog was oblivious to the fact that her dog was attacking us and needed to be restrained. She had her German Shepard unleashed, while I had three small dogs on a leash. The spray successfully deterred the dog and encouraged the owner to regain control (she had no idea if the substance was harmful or not). I had to spray five times, and the dog always backed away. If it had been a stray dog, it would not have helped me at all. This was unquestionably appropriate in the circumstances. In the event that I am attacked by a persistent stray, I believe I will purchase something more dangerous.
I had to use it this morning against a large aggressive dog, and it was ineffective. It didn't work! The ineffective and ineffective stream of spray only traveled 5-feet. 6 feet, and the small amount that did make it to the dog appeared to have no effect at all. Fortunately, because I'm a big guy who isn't scared of dogs and was wearing heavy boots, I was able to scare it away with a hard kick. My can's expiration date is July 20, 2023, so it should last another year. 5 years.
The sprayer had given up the ghost. It's still over half-full, but it's dribbled out. I'm dissatisfied with the situation. I'm not even allowed to use it. It had to work for us. Thank goodness I wasn't being attacked when it went out. I'd like to have one that works and can put it to the test, but I won't be buying this brand again because it didn't spray.
However, it did not happen as quickly as we had hoped. Unfortunately, we had to fight again (we have 6 pound-dogs). We emptied this product into the aggressor's face, but it didn't stop the fight as quickly as we had hoped. After another 30 seconds or so, they finally stopped, but we had hoped for a more immediate solution- When you love both dogs, 30 seconds is a very long time to be unable to watch a dogfight. We've reordered a few more because this product did eventually put an end to the fight.
My finger was amputated after being attacked by a dog. The only thing that happened was that the dog's face turned orange. It didn't seem to bother the animal in the least.
I went with the larger size based on my research for two reasons: It comes with a hook that you can attach to your clothes, and the spray can reach a distance of 15 feet, compared to only 10 feet. 7 feet. 7 feet is too close for comfort, and to be honest, I wouldn't find this useful if an angry dog was that close and in attack mode. Because I live in a neighborhood with a lot of stray dogs and coyotes, I decided to buy just in case. Knowing I have it gives me peace of mind when walking my dog, but I hope I never need to use it. Please note that this is only for dog attacks; state and federal laws prohibit it from being used on people.
So, because I've had a problem with my neighbors' dogs running loose and attempting to bite me or my wife, I was eager to try this product when I saw it on Amazon. I keep it in my yard at all times, and I got my first chance to use it the other day, and it did not disappoint! When I turned and hosed down their dogs, they snuck around my cars and tried to sneak up behind me! They yelped as they tucked their tails and dashed home. Since then, I've only seen them once and didn't even get close to the property line! You can bet I'll never be caught without this stuff! It was a slam-dunk success!.
