A broken one would be very difficult to repair. This buckle on the leash is very durable it's heavier than the clasps on many collars. We use the leash for hiking on the farm and for training sessions with our 80 lb Pittie.

This leash has been an absolute pleasure to use. Since she can now get so much more exercise than she used to, my dog has been happy and healthy. In any case, the metal piece failed after only a short time. While the handle is no longer dangling from the bar, the top stitch is still holding it together quite well. The leash would not be trusted to tie down animals. In terms of training (recall), it is very successful. Overall, I think the leash is a good buy for the price! Despite the defective leash, I still find it to be a really useful item and it has held up well (minus the stitching on the handle). It's almost impossible to stitch the leash together after just about 4 play sessions. The stitching is completely coming apart after this. I probably won't get to use it much longer. The unraveling is happening so fast that it has to be repeated four times. In addition to the mighty paw products that I have ordered, I have been extremely satisfied with them.
