There is no such thing as "enzymatic" toothpaste, and the website's description is misleading
3/5

There are no enzymes in the toothpaste that was delivered to me, according to the ingredients list on the package. Instead, the ingredients of this toothpaste are a concoction of chemicals and flavoring agents. As a result, how and why this toothpaste is marketed as "enzymatic" is unclear. It isn't the case.

If I could, I would give it six stars
5/5

I'm not sure if this has been reviewed before, but I wanted to add my two cents. I'd brought my 7-pounder with me. 7 1/2 yr. Yesterday, we took our old Chihuahua to the vet for a checkup, tests, and vaccinations. During his examination, the veterinarian I've used for all of my dogs since moving here in 1993 complimented my dog's teeth. "How do you keep his teeth so nice?" she asked. "He should be a poster dog for canine dental hygiene. " I told her that I brush my teeth every morning with Petrodex Enzymatic Toothpaste, which I apply with a small piece of damp gauze bandage. I dab a dot or two on it and use my index finger to go all the way around his tiny teeth. When it comes to cleaning a small dog's mouth, brushes and those things you put on the tip of your finger are a joke. Even with a larger dog, I believe that using gauze gives you more control and reduces your dog's fear. Anyway, knowing that the few minutes I spend every morning are noticed by a pro made me feel really good. Most of you are probably aware of the importance of keeping your pet's teeth clean, as this can lead to a variety of health issues. Take a look at how critical it is for yourself. After we left the exam room and I was about to pay the bill, she said to the three staff members present, "You should see Buddy's teeth, there is no tarter at all," and Buddy seemed to understand what she was saying and gave a big smile, flashing his pearly whites. Everyone laughed, and one of them said, "Look at him smile, he understands what we're saying. " " Message to all: Please take a few moments to brush your pet's teeth. You'll be helping your friend stay healthy, saving money in the long run, and not having to hold your breath when your loved one kisses you.

Our dog had a foul odor and was possibly poisoned
3/5

We're 100 not sure, but this toothpaste seems to have poisoned our Yorkiepoo. We received a tube that smelled rotten, but other reviews mentioned a bad odor as well, so we tried it out a few times and it seemed to work fine. Our girl began vomiting less than a week later, and when we took her to the veterinarian the next day, she showed signs of terminal organ failure and died. Nothing else in her diet had changed, and she'd always been inside with us in the same place for years, with no toxic items in sight. Except for her food and toys, she doesn't chew or eat anything else. We attempted to contact Petrodex several times to simply inquire if they were aware of a faulty batch or if their formula had changed, but we received no response. We are extremely dissatisfied with this company and will never purchase their products again. br>br>1/11/18 Update - We have received no responses from Petrodex after numerous attempts to contact them with questions. This is extremely unprofessional.

A thousand words can't express what a picture can
5/5

The outcomes are amazing! My five-year-old dog has good teeth, but he has tartar build-up from years of chewing. To keep his teeth healthy and clean, I give him greenies every day and plenty of chews. I used to brush his teeth every now and then when I first got him, but I eventually stopped. I don't always have the energy to brush my own teeth, let alone my dog's, so who can blame me for giving up? After a couple of years of not brushing my teeth, I decided to get back on the good dog dental hygiene train and ordered another tube of Petrodex Enzymatic Toothpaste. My dog's teeth look amazing after regular use! I got him when he was a year old, and his teeth are in better shape now than they were then. For the past month, I've been using Petrodex Enzymatic Toothpaste a couple of times per week. The tartar on his back teeth softened and loosened, allowing me to scrape it off with a tooth scaler. The tartar came off in chunks with ease. I wish I had taken before and after photos because the results were amazing. Granted, my dog's teeth were not in bad shape, so don't expect miracles from this product, but the tartar layer between his gums and his back teeth has vanished completely. I was even able to remove the dark lines on his back teeth near his gums that I mistook for decaying teeth, but it turned out to be just deep-seated bacteria. tarter buildup that had darkened was removed. br>br>A picture of my dog's teeth is included. I'm no dog dentist, but his teeth appear to be in good shape (for a five-year-old!). If I do say so myself, it's fantastic! All of the above results were obtained after only one month of using the toothpaste, so I'm confident that with a little more brushing, his teeth will be in even better shape. My dog also enjoys the taste of the toothpaste, so brushing his teeth is a breeze for him. To achieve the best results, I suggest using Petrodex Enzymatic Toothpaste in conjunction with a tooth scaler. If you do decide to use a scaler, be gentle so you don't hurt your dog's gums, and don't press too hard so the enamel on his teeth isn't damaged. With the scaler, gently but firmly press down on the tartar. After using the scaler to polish the teeth, make sure to brush them again.

The quality of the product has declined
3/5

This toothpaste used to be a favorite of mine and my dogs, but something has changed in the last few months, and it now smells rotten. I bought three tubes, and after opening the first one, I opened the second one, thinking that something was wrong with the first. It smelled just as bad as the first, so I went to my local pet store and bought a smaller size tube of the same flavor (poultry), which smelled just as bad as the others. We still had a tiny bit left in the tube we were using, so we did a taste test with our dogs and discovered that they preferred the flavor of the older tubes over the new stinkier tubes. I went ahead and used the first tube because I needed something to brush my dogs' teeth with, but they aren't as enthusiastic about it as they once were, and it began to smell even worse near the end of the tube. My husband and I are currently researching other brands because we are concerned about the safety of this product for our two dachshunds. I'm also considering contacting Sentry to lodge a complaint about this product, as it appears to be defective.
