We used the product to feed the chickens the next morning after receiving it on Tuesday night. I found that the bowl was rusting all around the inside lip of the bowl and the outside lip of the raised center area when I got home last Wednesday night. As indicated by the thin coating, it may have been compromised during pressing or forming, leaving the base material, which is not stainless steel, exposed. We received this stainless steel bowl today for our German Shepherd Dog, we already have a Neater Feeder, but the slow feed bowl we use now doesn't actually sit in the Feeder, so I immediately ordered this one when I saw it actually fit in there and was stainless steel. There is no way to hand wash the bottom of the bowl, I had to use my fingers and a paper towel to clean the bottom. My dog bowl dishwashing brush does not fit down there, so it can't be used for my needs. In conclusion, I don't find the bowl to be such a great bowl The inside of the bowl is 7 1/2 inches high and tapers down to 6 1/2 inches at the bottom, but the hub at the bottom is 4 1/2 inches wide, allowing your dog to have 1" space at the bottom of a bowl that is 2 1/2 inches.

A dog with a short muzzle would not be a good candidate for this slow feeder. The unfortunate thing about these bowls is that they can slide around when they are in use, but I suppose it is because they are made to fit inside of raised stationary feeders. Basically, these bowls cater to my primary needs and fulfill my primary.

In a triple feeder frame, I put 2 of these bowls in and they fit perfectly. We have a pit bull/lab mix who is 80 pounds and has a big snout, and he has no problem eating from the bowl. A second bowl is for a greyhound/rhodesian, weighing 65 pounds, who has a long snout and a fat belly, and has no trouble eating, as well. There were slow feeder bowls with a much smaller bump up in the middle, and they were nearly ineffective. As shown in my photo, the bowl holds 2 cups of kibble. In addition, the paw print design in the middle is adorable.
