It is backed with strips of rubberized fibers 3/16" wide stitched lengthwise in rows that are about 1/4" apart. Imagine the top of the mat upside down as a plowed field in which the "rubberized" fibers are the high points. As a result, the "rubberized" fibers prevent the "breathing" rows from touching the surface whilst being used. a lot of space in the car. Despite the backing fibers having a very light rubber feeling, they do not tend to resist movement very well unless there is weight on top of them, at least where our tiles are, so it isn't a major factor. Hence, I wouldn't hesitate to use them on a hardwood floor that has a standard finish given their lack of solid rubber backing, sway that they cause with use, and their great absorption ability. The rubberized method is what I used as I'm unsure what the actual sticky material on the lifting rows is like. Rubber probably isn't the best material. In other words, it does not have a layer of rubber, or anything like that, that will trap moisture and dirt under it like cheap doormats do. We really like these mats because they are well made, made well, and they work well with our dogs. In addition, I am happy with the results of the Soggy Doggy Shammy (sic). If Doggy Place would have only used the correct color (charcoal/grey) in the boxes labelled charcoal and/or grey, I'd be really happy with my purchase. You get a navy blue shirt as a surprise. There are dark brown rugs in my home that I cannot determine whether the dogs have relieved themselves on, so I regularly wash them. Besides being easy to clean, the rugs also dry quickly. Buying is not a good idea. Spending money on something useless is a waste In their marketing materials, this company claims that their product "Soaks up water & This film does not contain the magic of "Dirt like Magic". Lifting the rug up to brush my hardwood floor, I discovered that all the water accumulated on it and the floor was soaked to the skin. After the water was exposed to my $20K hardwood floor upgrade, it now has ripples. It went right through the rug when I manually wet it with a little bit of water. As a result, I must put a garbage bag beneath the rug so water does not flow through my hardwood flooring. Despite paying so much money for this rug, it isn't worth it. Instead of buying a more expensive rug, I could have bought a way cheaper rug and then put a plastic bag underneath it if I knew that this company advertised falsely.

I'm glad to hear this! It came in medium and oatmeal colors for me. My carpet matches the color of the mat, which is approximately the size of a doormat. I just have to walk my dog across it and then let her sit on it while I remove her leash and collar so that it absorbs all the water and mud off her paws.
