You are right. A strip of elastic is sewn on the part of the shirt nearest his pee pee so the shirt is held up snug against his tummy and out of the way while he pees.
I have a pit bull with a neck of 18, a girth of 32, and a length of 24 inches. This is a large size. It stretches slightly after washing, but returns to its original state after drying. Shrinkage is not an issue. There are no fades. The pilling of any kind will not be tolerated. I like the shirt very much!

The problem with English bulldog clothing is that it's very hard to find the right size. The problem is, I have two English bulldogs one is fat, and the other is not. So, this is perfect. I want to thank the other bulldog owner for sending me that photo and for writing the The only large size I ordered was to see which dog might be able to fit into The large size was perfect for a 54 lb child. One can still wear it despite being 67 pounds, but it looks a bit tight. Thus, I will order an XL size.
The biggest problem I tend to encounter is that the tops for male dogs are often too long on the belly side. The fabric of this top is designed with a slit that ensures your pup won't unintentionally pee on the fabric due to the elastic in the neck area. This dog shirt is also noticeable shorter on the belly than the back (which, in my opinion, is how all dog shirts should be designed). I wish there were more colors to choose from.
