If that helps you decide what size to buy for your Lab, we bought a Medium for our Schnauzer that weighed 12 pounds and it fit perfectly.
That's not the case, in my opinion. With no room to spare, the large fit my 9 lb cat without a problem. Stocky is the best way to describe a pug.
