This blanket has been hand washed several times and laundered at the laundromat as well. The condition of the boat has never been an issue for me.
Water-resistance isn't a term I would use for this product. It didn't seem to bother my dog, though. The fact that she felt like she was sleeping with her littermates made her feel like she was a litter-mate.

My first thought was that I would be returning this because I didn't think my dogs were crazy about it, but I was wrong
I put it on the foot of my bed for mine, but I forgot about my black lab since he sleeps next to me all night. Despite having the same ratty blankets since they were rescued, I still use the same blankets for my picky dogs! Blankets and beds that are new rarely get taken to by my children. I usually donate them. In addition, I bought a small cat bed for my three cats, and two of them used it immediately. My cats are a bit picky about their beds.
Update in progress *Skip to 1 I regret buying two of these mattresses. After hand washing and hanging them dry, all of them look matted and ugly my dogs no longer seek their beds out for rest rather they pick them up and throw them off the bed.
I washed this and it turned out to be quite soft. The materials came out of the dryer completely smashed looking and not fluffy at all, even after I followed the instructions, cold water, low heat.
