I would definitely use this for a short trip with my goffin cockatoo. If I had been going on a long trip, I probably could have gone a bit smaller, but for the extra space, I would have gone a bit larger. It was only a matter of transporting the cat to the veterinarian. My first complaint is that I am not happy with the current state of things. The odor is most likely due to materials in the bag and being sealed with plastic. Once you are on the move, the haze should dissipate. On the other hand, the screen is there. I understand the tight weave is difficult for birds to latch onto and chew, but a clear inside view would be nice from their point of view. The perch inside is removable for cleaning, and the bottom piece is attached with Velcro so she can easily remove it It would have been better if there was something like a Velcro'd on tray If this were not the case, stuff would slide so a lip would be nice. The outer side walls are fairly durable The most important thing is that I feel safe leaving my little guy with you.
