The various thicknesses help with both the beak and the talons, and they appear to be keeping them trim after vet visits so far.

These would have been fine if they hadn't had a mildewy odor. Birds cannot tolerate mildew or mold, as anyone who knows anything about them knows. I'd already thrown away the packaging, intending to toss them into the cage with my bird, but I'm afraid I won't be able to do so. This was a let-down. br>br>Aside from the mildew odor, the thicker perches were nice, but the Y perches appeared to be a little thin, and should only be used for very small birds like budgies and parrotlets.
These are something I'm not sure about. They appear to be in good condition. One of them is covered in black spots that resemble mildew. I'm not sure if that's how the tree should smell or what, but they all smell strange. One of them is rusted through and through. I'm going to wait and see if the odor goes away, then scrub the black stuff off.
These are nice little perches, and I didn't notice any of the mold smells mentioned in the comments. My only complaint is that the perches are a little smaller than I had anticipated. NOT ONE INCHES THICK, AS THE PRODUCT PICTURES REPRESENT. BUT they still look good and work well, and they're not too small for my pionus (except on the branch perch). Because the branch parts are too small for her feet, I assume they're mostly decorative).
Before allowing our birds to approach them, I'll need to let them air out for a while. I'm glad I have a set of four, but they're a bit stinky.
I have seen a lot of products in my 50 years of having pets, including birds. My parakeets and cockatiels are about to be merged into a single large cage. Despite the fact that they are not very long, I chose these perches. They'd be good exercise for cockatiels and parakeets, though, because of the two different diameters. I also decided that because they were shorter, I could mount them around the outside of the vehicle, leaving the center open for more flight.
In a parrot cage, the washers were too small. I recently received some larger ones from my husband. The perches, in particular, are fantastic!.
This appeals to me because it is made from real tree branches. It provides a good grip for my birds and comes highly recommended. Fantastic product.
The importance of natural, varied perches for the feet of birds cannot be overstated!.
