Questions & Answers

In my observation, the seed catcher has a hole in the middle. This seed catcher needs to be mounted to a pole below the bird feeder. Where do I find this hardware?

There is a need for a pole mounting bracket. Alternatively, you can purchase a feeder that holds flat on top of a pole or one with a hole through it so a bird feeder can be mounted above it. For the price, the tray should come with the hardware!

When it rains, how much water does the wood tray hold?

Water cannot be held in this vessel. Two perforated trays are on it, and there are tiny holes in each of However, the wood has been coated with polyurethane.

The railing of our deck may be nailed to this product?

If you nail it directly to the deck railing, I do not recommend it. Moisture will collect under the deck and cause it A flange is used to screw the seed catcher onto the pole, a second flange to attach the rail to the deck. There is an Amazon flange available for purchase. Instead of putting it right on your deck, you might want to put it next to it rather than on it. This will still attract seeds and bird droppings.

A cedar-looking material that looks like recycled plastic is described on the box. Can you tell me what the material is?

Thank you for your interest in the SNHPF125 listed and pictured. Plastic is recycled in the construction of the product - (Birds Choice has a Cedar line). There is also a guarantee that they won't crack, chip, fade, A feeder like this will last for a long, long time. Gordon, Honey Creek Bill & Having a beak

Those seeds caught in this device are great
5/5

Those seeds caught in this device are great. On this platform the bird sits in his penthouse! It is easy to install. To prevent it from tipping over during a strong wind or storm, make sure whatever pole you attach this to is firmly planted in the ground. It is a favorite of the birds. The 1 1/2" flange I purchased from Wild Birds Unlimited was the tip. Including the flange was a set of four To connect the seed catcher to a metal pole I already purchased from Perky Pet, I screwed on the flange to the bottom of the seed catcher. A picture of the whole kit and kaboodle is attached for your perusal.

A well-made feeder, however, the screen does not last and it is poorly protected from rust
3/5

The composite frame is excellently constructed however, the screen does not last. The fitting and craftsmanship are good and the frame is sturdy and will likely last for a long time. A removable screen that holds the seeds will last only about a year at a time. In the long run, any rust-proofing that is used on the screen is ineffective after about a month or two it begins to wear off, and the panel rusts rapidly and destructively. During the first couple of months, it loses much of its rigidity, is easy to bend and deform, and is difficult to remove and clean. This type of feeder has been purchased several times by me because the size and style fit my needs, but they must be replaced when the screen becomes damaged. Most people are done after a year. In the latest case, I sprayed with a rust-resistant outdoor paint, so we may be able to extend its life.

This is a fantastic feeder, strong enough to support full-grown possums
5/5

I have found it to be my most productive feeder, as well as hardy. This tray feeder has been used by bluebirds, chickadees, bluejays, cardinals, mourning doves, and yes, even a possum weighed 8 pounds has been seen eating out of it. It's hard for me to keep it filled up fast enough, and I may consider exclusively rolling with this type of tray feeder because of its Another fantastic aspect of this product is that it is made from recycled materials. To make a very solid platform, I use a nite-ize #3 caribeaner to clip the two hanging points together. I watched a foolish possum climb on to this feeder, grinning as he ate, and i saw a squirrel feeding from the tray as well, so I suppose that this feeder has one real downside the threat of exposure to varmints. Wildlife has a huge impact on me, so watching it is a great pleasure for me. This is a great product line and I can't wait to see the progress of this company with this product line.

It's very sturdy and well built
5/5

I have paired it with a "Birds Choice Mounting Flange for 1in Pole" and it works well if you set it underneath your standard feeder to catch seeds that sparrows throw I like how the screen mess is well fitted so that the smallest seeds (white millet and grain sorghum) do not fall through it. This screen is designed to reduce the amount of time needed for cleaning by only allowing the seed husks to pass through. We manufacture the tray with the highest tolerances and reinforce it where it meets the pole with oak hardwood. There is an even spacing between every screw and it is perfectly recessed. I only changed one thing, and that was to use longer screws than came with the Mounting Flange (which you have to purchase separately depending on the pole you use). In addition, this is a very sturdy item. Five large crows were jumping on it simultaneously in the snow yesterday. There was about a foot of snow in it yesterday, and it had about 5 inches of snow in it. The solution can hold up to that in a Minnesota winter, so it can be used anywhere.

I would give this 5 stars but there is no easy way to attach a pole to it
3/5

The only thing stopping me from giving this 5 stars is the lack of an easy way to attach the The article mentions a 1" pole would work, however the pole it uses is about I drilled a hole through it of 5"! As disappointing as this is, it means that a new piece needs to be constructed to attach the tray once it arrives. It's stupid of them to plan that way.

This is a good quality, perfect size for Cardinals, Blue Jays, and A while back I wrote about this product but gave it a one star review
5/5

I have to change that. I gave five stars because the wire tray was reversed and all the seeds were spilling out onto the sides of the platform. Now the seeds have all stayed in the wire tray nonetheless. I am elated. My bird feeder tray is the perfect size for Cardinals, Blue Jays, and even woodpeckers who come to feed. I can highly recommend it!.

It appears to be a well-designed seed catcher that works well
5/5

It is very well made and you can stain it to match your feeder making it appear less obtrusive. There is some evidence that the 22" unit collects between 85-90 percent of data The waste seed and husks previously going to the ground now make up 90% of what is thrown away. You must remember to periodically empty the screens, perhaps once a week. Although I only have this catcher installed on my feeder for a few weeks, it looks to me as though this will allow grass to grow under it I intended to purchase the fairly expensive item for this purpose. There is a caveat here. Winter in northern Ohio is likely to be snowy, so I will have to remove the catcher otherwise it will fill up with snow and ice. It passes the snow test in Northern Ohio, according to an update 3/3/15. When ice formed on the tray, it was difficult to shake off, but it was not a problem when snow fell. Seed residue is still caught by its wire mesh inserts and can be shaken off no problem once or twice a week by removing the inserts and shaking off snow and debris. I plan to do a follow-up once the 9 consecutive weeks of melting snow have ended and I have had another chance to evaluate the seed catcher's protection of grass beneath the feeder once again.

Don't underestimate the importance of a generous My house is often invaded by blue jays and doves
5/5

This is just what I need. It was surprisingly inexpensive for a bag of this size and quality. I looked around for a long time before finding this bag. It's solid metal construction, which it's mounted on, is a feature I like a lot. I have not been able to find a better price for a quality platform feeder of this size at the time. Some other feeders were using chains that were breaking pretty quickly for many.
