There is no lock-in for certain lengths, but it does seem to lock in for some. The space I have when I pull back means I have to adjust mine frequently and quickly. The model I like is amazing, but make sure you wear work gloves that are sturdy.
If you're looking for a roof rake with wheels like mine, I have not seen one, but I ordered a plastic roof rake and I believe the plastic rake will be safe on the shingles
