Questions & Answers

Does it have a limit on how much weight it can bear? If my father weighs 250 pounds and is in a wheelchair, can he ride along the mats in his walker?

I have no problem with that. Since I have had them for more than 5 years, they have proven to be quite durable. If it's narrow for a wheelchair, make sure you check the specs on width and compare it with the chair your father has.

Are these ok to use on wood decks?

The product works well on wood decks, but I am hesitant to use it on plastic decks

Is it possible to connect six stair mats and two bar stools together Is it possible to use two 20" x 5' mats from one ?

The sum of all of those items won't exceed 10 amps if they are connected together, and a 15 or 20 amp circuit should be enough to power All of those items can be connected together and powered by one circuit, so yes, they can, indeed.

Is this sturdy enough to handle the rigors of Puncturing the mat is a concern for me. ?

The one I have been using for several years is on a wooden walk way. I have not used mine on gravel so I cannot comment on how it is for a gravel walkway. As far as I can tell, mine mats are very durable and have held up well Throughout Alaska, we get lots of ice, snow, and temps below freezing for long periods of time, and these mats have performed well in these conditions. Based on what I read here on Amazon, this is what it says Stone is compatible with this method. I would then contact the company to confirm which stone type they are referring to in their marketing materials.

When the temperature drops below 5 degrees, 20" of water freezes over
3/5

The 30-inch line freezes along the edges, creating a hazard. A number of 20" x 60" and 30" x 60" versions of this product have been made and used by me. As seen in 5 By ten degrees, the 20 x 60 mats were covered in ice. The 30 x 60 mats freeze at the edges, creating slippery areas such as along edges of steps and steps. Making matters worse, the melting snow feeds the edge with water, making it freeze too. So while it is better than nothing, you should be aware that there are some hazard spots, as was noted by my handyman when he almost slipped and fell going When I returned the useful 20 x 60 sheets, I asked for a credit on shipping so that I could replace them with the more expensive 30 x 60 sheets, however I was refused and return shipping was expensive, therefore I won't update this review until I have photos of the hazardous parts. Announcing an update It is clear from these photos that ice forms on the edges of the mats at the top of the steps where people typically walk up.

In addition, you will need to purchase a power unit
3/5

Without MAT, it will not work. 2 months ago, took it out of the box before the snowfall. My (expensive) mats aren't good for use without a power unit. Since there will be snow tomorrow, I unpacked them to realize that I will have to buy a unit. $5 additional charge on top of the $95 per person. The shipping charge was 35 dollars. It's a big disappointment that the expensive items do not include the power unit, so I'll have to spend an additional $45 for that, and tomorrow as it snows I won't be able to The truth is I could have done a little research to see if I can use it straight out of the box, but I didn't. At this point, I would like to, at most, give mat one star before even connecting it.

Despite being a good system, only one in four buildings failed within the first In addition to the three mats I purchased three years ago, I also purchased one mat earlier in the year
3/5

I have been pleased with the performance of the mats previously. We are very pleased with how well they have kept our front walkways free from snow and ice. We have a walkway located in front of a roof overhang, which usually drips freezing water onto the I had a problem this year plugging in the mats because one of them would not As for the date I purchased the mat, I do not have an exact date, but it must be less than ten years old. If you were to buy a mat for this price, I would have expected it to last the entire You were not told what to do if your mat failed after a relatively short period of time in the FAQ section of the website.

HeatTrak came without any power supply when I received it
3/5

I was disappointed when I realized that it was a disappointing product. In my order, I overlooked the fact that the unit did not come with a power supply (My mistake, BUYER BEWARE). But to be honest, it's hard to think of any other electrical item you might buy that does not There is no computer, and there is no television, and there is no toaster. In any case, I have ordered the power supplies, and I am looking forward to As much as I would like to wait to post this review, I get emails from the company asking me to review them so I am doing so now. My opinion will be updated if my opinion improves once I have the power supply. My basement still has a clunky piece of electronics in it, and I have to deal with icy steps until then.

Its lifespan is too short to justify the price
3/5

HeatTrak's products used to be my favorite, but I have become very disillusioned after seeing how short their lifespans are. The merchandise I purchased over a period of four years included a walkway mat, a carpeted walkway mat, seven stair mats, two power units, and a cable extension. I was unable to use the carpeted mat once it had been installed. In the past three seasons, the walk mat has worked fine. Despite four seasons using the same stair mats, there was no wear and tear. , but those mats are connected to the old units with the extension cable, and I haven't yet figured out whether the fault is with the old mats, the old power unit, or the new extension cable (haven't had time to troubleshoot it yet).

At this rate, I have been paying more than $100 per year to keep 6 steps and 5 feet of walkway partially cleared most of the time. It would cost much less to have that much area thoroughly cleared. The mats were convenient since no one needed to shovel in icy conditions, and you didn't have to use salt with no salt in the mats. However, I think it is time to give up on the idea because it is expensive and unnecessary. I am updating I have attempted to contact HeatTrak customer service 3 times in order to get assistance with a return authorization or troubleshooting problems with the new, nonworking mats but they have never responded. Although they state that they offer a warranty, if you cannot contact the company to enforce it, the warranty is of little use.

I am extremely impressed with the product
5/5

This is a great piece of work. As a resident of the NW Rockies, I have a unique perspective of the area. The mountains are in the distance. It was dangerous to walk outside our door as the ice continued to build up. This * is a long time investment for me and I expected it to virtually eliminate ice build up, but in fact I've been pleasantly surprised. Our campus received two feet of snow over the past 18 hours, but the only location completely free of snow and ice was (This is an excellent piece of work! The additional $75 is credited to the account. There is an additional cost of $0. 00, but it's well worth the added expense.

It was the only thing we could do to solve a dangerous problem! I live at the bottom of a hill in New England, and the melting runs off into my yard As the snow plows blow off and piles of snow accumulate, these can create an icy barrier near our home's main entrance
5/5

The only thing left to do is My experience is that I have almost tried them all over the past 20+ years. There have been no successful attempts at this. You'll also have fewer salt deposits on your lawn and on your pets. Despite their heat, they are not scorching (our cats have complained about them), so they are very safe for cats. It doesn't seem like they have a big effect on my power bill, but I try to unplug them when I'm not using them. Snow melts at a good rate at their facilities Even though they get covered in a blizzard, as soon as the snow melts, the cover is gone. The fact that you don't have to shovel the back walk is also a pleasure. As a result, they are not inexpensive, but they are solidly made. In the winter months, I suggest you compare it to what you pay for salt or ice melt. These are probably not worth it for people who live somewhere where that is chump change. It isn't, but it is in Connecticut. It's not the only cause, but snow shoveling is also a serious cause of heart attacks and back problems, so what's the point?.
